Might aswell ask you since you are here Rich & Dan, how is the speed of changing between combi--> combi, oasys is blazing fast what i can see from videos, the only concern I've had with my M3 that It's abit sluggish on this sometimes. And im speaking about fully loaded Combis with everything (no drumtrack/karma tho, just pure sounds).

This is a difficult one to measure, but with a quick test, I can fully load about five Combis per second.

Very cool! Not as good as being able to call up a PDF, but a nice feature!

I'm curious about how to initially create a set list. Can you scroll through an alphabetical list of all your loaded songs, and click on ones to add to the current list?

That sounds fast  but I haven't played an Oasys (just seen videos) but i guess its in the same range. or atleast alot faster than the m3. Cheers.

Great question. I was convinced it was pure modeling.
I need to clarify this... The "samples not loaded" message is only there because the Drum Track for that program uses a sample library that wasn't currently loaded. It has nothing to do with EP-1.

When I call EP-1's data a "sample library," it's not the same as one of our EXs libraries, and can't be interpreted by a sample playback engine. It starts as samples, but it gets transformed into data that needs the proprietary algorithms in MDS to generate the performance.

Hope that makes sense. :)

Jan1 wrote:I have a question about the fan: is it audible in a quiet room?

I'm all the more concerned about it since I read there are no holes in the KRONOS to move hot air out.
So, after a while all the fan ends up doing is moving hot air around in a closed space, and at that point the fan will just keep running at maximum speed since the temperature isn't going down.
I can hear the fan if I put my head close to the keyboard, but I certainly wouldn't call it "loud."

True that there are no holes specifically for ventilation, but a) the processor doesn't run extremely hot and b) even if it's being played outside on a blazing hot summer day, head can dissipate from the slider tracks and the keybed. Overheating should not be a concern... We go through extensive temperature tests with every product.
Since my head usually remains at some distance from the keyboard it sounds like the fan is not going to make enough noise to become irritating.
Assuming that the fan has variable speed, have you also tested the noise level of the fan when the CPU is being stressed?

I have one small question. SGX-1 pianos are listed as EXs6 and EXs7 PCM Libraries. Does that mean that these samples can also be used in HD-1 engine? If yes, then does using them in SGX-1 engine offer any features not present in HD-1?

Yes, the samples can be used in the HD-1 engine, but SGX-1 does offer features not present in HD-1. For example, you can select piano "types" that offer different velocity response, tuning, and volume levels across the sample sets. You also have immediate control over damper resonance, mechanical noises, lid position, stereo perspective, and a few other things.

In short, SGX-1 is not just a convenient way to organize these large sample collections.

On the top page of Program, Combination, and Sequencer modes - where you select sounds - there's a menu command: Add To Set List. This inserts the sound (or Song) into the current Set List.

You can also add or edit sound/Song selections from within the Set List, of course.

Korg loves you too McHale, even though we made the 73 with weighted keys... :)

that is SO sweet.

:)

but yah, that was mean. But it's hard for me to say "It's now impossible to play fast organ or leads" when you watch what Rodan (I love that misspelling BTW) Rudess does. And to be honest, playing that great of a piano patch on semi-weighted keys would be just wrong. And the bonus is, once I get it all ready, I now have 15 MORE keys to work with. You probably did me a favor!

And seriously, great job on the Kronos demos. You do a great job with that stuff. You have my dream job and I'm jealous as hell!

Hi Rich
Since the Kronos does not have the pads, can we plug any pad midi controller or Kaoss pad via midi just to function like pads on the M3 or Fantom ?
I really wonder of Kronos supports that kind of expansion ?
Thanks man
