Expansion Board XMS-1
Hello good people.
I have few questions and doubts about this expansion XMS-1.
I just had good chance to buy it, but after reading some remarks from its users, i hesitate now. As I understood, this board is more than just expansion met in other instruments, which contains extra sounds and settings as bonus to original stuff. Normally expansion should provide additional sounds, settinngs, etc, as option ti user to choose from. But from some opinion i understood that installing this board I will affect original settings, styles and sounds of "factory" state of Pa1XPro, and most styles, arrangement and sounds will not sound the same anymore - correct?
Of course to some people it can sound better, but to some other it can sound worse - so is there any way so i can retain all factory settings etc. and have whatever XMS-1 can offer only as user option, without afecting original mixes, volumes, etc. of original Korg staff?
Thanks for your help.

Safest way would be to make sure you have backed up you Pa1xpro before installing the new board.
Do a full resources back up as well as save All backup (all items ticked). I'd also copy these files to a computer via USB to be extra safe. Also back up your HD folder to be sure you have everything saved. (Normal backups do not save things like midi files so you need to back up your HD as well).
If you like what the Expansion board does then great - if not then you can always pull it out.
Best.

Its third party and not authorised by Korg. My understanding is that it does a lot of tweaking (probably mainly via inbuilt effects).
Maybe its a bit like EQs on your old stereo system - it always seems to sound better the more your push up the highs and lows but in the end it starts sounding artificial.
Best regards,
John

You are mistaken my friend unless you're getting a new Pa2 using the famous Serbian discount. I thought arithemitic was a high priority in European schools. List price all over the internet right now for the Pa2xPro is $3,699 USD. Say you can get one discounted for 3K. The last closeout price on a brand new Pa1xPro was $1,000. I bought mine used a couple of years ago for $1,300. This expansion board costs 2 grand?? I don't think so.

http://www.leboncoin.fr/annonces/offres ... h=1&q=PA2X
here u can find another so that means that 1300e (price of pa1x) + price for this thing = used pa2x in good condition? Am i wrong?
And for a pa3x....
http://www.leboncoin.fr/instruments_de_ ... tm?ca=12_s
i saw one last week 100euros less then this one....
i just wanted to say, how dumb u have to be to pay 300-500 euros for few more stupid styles and some more sound.... its better korg to change operating system and take off limitation of adding new ram memory..... ill give that money to korg for something that.
i imagine i buy a car and producer wont let me possibility to change stereo system in my car.... bizare, isnt it?

Well, new vs used wasn't really part of your original point. If you're talking used then talk a used price for the expansion board too. Your 1,640e price used is still $2,370 usd which sounds reasonable. I suspect the new price would be similar to what it is here, $3,700 USD. Buying a new Pa2xPro is a lot of money vs getting that expansion board if it's any good.
