Librarian for Triton Studio

Post by DWCowans »

Is there any reason why Korg hasn't been able to produce a patch librarian for Tritons? With such a vast amount of developers and what not, you'd think that they'd develop a simple program for their own product(s).

I'm not even looking for a patch editor, just a librarian. Something that allows me organize files from multiple PCG files into one nice custom package tailored to me.

I know someone is currently working tirelessly on a program and it is well appreciated for their time and effort into doing something a giant manufacturer has failed to do for its loyal customers and users.

I used to own Trinity and I used Kevin Goodman's Trinitro software was perfect. I thought that something like that would exist for the Triton since there are more users out there only to be disappointed.

Has anyone found a solution to dealing large amounts of patch files and organizing them?

I don't know the exact reason; probably because loading a program from another PCG is already possible but very tedious.

There are librarian programs out there - the catch is whether they'll work with the Studio if they were originally designed to work with the Classic.

Try google searching "TritonLib" or "TritonLib102" (I think that's the last version.)[I can't recall if it was freeware or shareware, but if it was paid it was in the less-than-$50 category]

I used this program to extensively hack my original triton classic, a complete rewrite of onboard sounds, reorganization of arps (all the drums together), and custom drum kits -- caution!!! it may not work on the Studio/Triton Rack because of increased number of banks. Using a full Studio PCG might call up the expanded bank structure.

Also you might want to search "LeLibby" freeware - I know this works for the Triton Extreme, it may also be able to handle the expanded banks on the Studio as well.

Duh... TritonLib is PC, LeLibby is Javascript and works on Mac or PC with Java run environment installed.

TritonLib doesn't allow me to open multiple pcg files at once or sort by category. Neither does it allow me to audition patches through MIDI

LeLibby Almost got it close except I can't open multiple files at once (I like to work with about 4-5 windows at once) and again there is no auditioning via MIDI

The closest thing that I've run across the mirrors the functionality of Trinitro is TriTools by Yann Guerin. It almost fit the bill except it lacked to following: (1) lack of ability to select more than one patch at a time in order to move many programs at once. And (2) for some reason you can play the triton from the computer via the virtual keyboard but the function to send the patches to the triton doesn't work..

If Tritools would offer multiple program selection, it'd be a winner for me.

DW,

Not up on TriTools - is it possible that you have a lite (shareware) audition version and that a full(er) functional paid version might enable some of the features you're looking for?

As to using TritonLib, I think I did a lot of my organization on paper... killed a tree or two printing out long lists of names and numbers on paper, then transferred programs to a Category Master (i.e., PCG of just string patches) then from there picking "best-of" and putting 'em into a new master that (for me) gave me a broad spectrum of voices and organized them so that I could recall them quickly from memory -- all pianos are "0##" with 10 in each bank and a total of 50 available (Banks A-E on the classic), then each of 12 GM-like categories getting 10 slots in each bank with the order of categories the same regardless of bank.

Admittedly, it took a long time but it was worth it and luckily I had time to spare because I didn't have to put it on stage right away.

This was 10 or more years ago for me, and tho' I've tweaked and modified individual voices since the original set-up, the overall structure has held up well and been very flexible - especially in live situations.

That is exactly what I wanna do but all within the software - just the way I was able to with Trinitro.

A simple Work Flow:
1) Create Category Masters
2) Weed out the doubles (I forgot which program checks actual parameters and not just file names)
3) Audtion each program in the category master (via midi) and create a "best of" category master.
4) Combine "best of" category masters into one final file - only making further eliminations in case I have too many patches. In which case, I go back to the "best of" category master and make the crucial decisions.

That's all I did with Trinitro. Took me about 2 days only because many files where slight variations of each other it took time to figure out which variation I'd most likely like to have on the fly.

As for Tritools, it's a full version. The program hasn't been touched since 2004 though. I wish the code was available for someone to modify to incorporate those final 2 features that I mentioned that would make it the ultimate Triton Librarian. You can check it out here http://tritools.yzik.net

If somebody who reads this can send me for a Triton they have (except an Extreme since I have that one myself) a complete PCG, and preferably a PCG with one program bank (and mention from which model(s)), I can check and otherwise probably extend the support of my app.
