saturday is the big day !!!

Post by Keymangerbo »

Wow I get my Kronos 88 keys on Saturday and I am very excited :D

I have also an Tyros 4 and have a question :
how can I set the Kronos to control the Tyros 4 with MIDI.
I want play the Tyros 4 using the keys of the Kronos so that I can play
ACMP and melody etc.
What are the simple settings in Midi on the Kronos to get this done ??

thx Gerrit

if you're just wanting to use the Kronos as a controller, a simple midi out to midi in cable will do the trick.

If you want to set your Tyros to only sound when you want it, you will have to change your master receive channel to something other than 1 (I usually use either 15 or 16). Then, when you are in your kronos, you can build a Combi and set up a slot with no internal sound, but one that transmits midi data out on whatever channel you set your Tyros for.

Congratulations! Don't worry about the fan- you'll get used to it quickly enough. If you need a bit of perspective about the fan noise grab an Emax HD or a Yamaha A3000! Seriously, they sound like an airport! I've found that once I get my headphones on or start cranking a mix I forget that there's even a fan in the board.

More importantly, though: congratulations and happy music construction! Enjoy! :)

1 fan noise (minimal) verses hundreds of lush sounds (beautiful). No contest in my eyes (ears)

Congratulations on your new synth.

My PC makes a lot more noise so I only discovered there was a fan inside the Kronos after shutting it down and really listened especially for the fan.
It didn't botter me at all.

[joke mode]
Maybe it is the secret 10th engine: FAN-1.
Should the OS 1.5 upgrade have the following settings:
Fan speed [500] rpm
Fan Noise Type: o Pink o White
Fan Frequency: 250 Hz

Fan Pitch Bend Range: +50 Hz
Fan Pitch AMS: Note Velocity Amount: 30Hz
[/joke mode]

I personally like to set one of the LFOs to modulate the fan frequency- some very interesting results! There should have been more modulation options out from the fan IMHO... All-in-all a good foray into "rotary synthesis"! :P

Maybe Korg can add a real virtual FAN-1 (or FAN-2) model, where you can set the type of material, length, thickness and number of blades etc. So people can check for themselves what is the best 'real' fan to put into the Kronos.
