My M50 is in pieces! :( (Pics inside)

Post by nismology »

This morning, my ARP button broke off inside the keyboard, so I've taken it to bits to see if the problem is fixable:

1.The back is taken off, about 20 screws in all. The buttons are buried beneath this lot!

2.The broken part, according to korg spare service is BUTTON BLOCK LHS E20307. Here it is:

You can see the empty space second from the left where the button has snapped off. The plastic tray contains the many screws I had to take out!

More pics for the keyboard gore!

I've ordered a whole new button block from Korg Support, at the cost of £5.11, I hope it still works when I put it back together! All my sounds are backed up just in case!

(And if you were wondering, yes I did take these pictures with a toaster!)

I think i'ts not much, I know somebody who was asked to pay $40 for a pen (sort of screw) of about 10 cm and 0,3 cm diameter.

And you have some spare parts now.

Interesting pics ! See a lot of unused space. What would be worth to place there :
couple of speakers ?
block of pads ?
ribbon controller ?
audiointerface ?
piggy bank ?
snuff box ?
ash-tray ?

I imagine there's a LOT more unused space in the M50 88!

My new part comes on Monday, so I can't play my beloved M50 until then! :(

nismology,
just wondering if any chance to expand this machine (Up to M3 :D )from hardware side.
Can you visually find on the plate :
- the chip with GM banks ? (guess that should be separate memory chip)
- any unused connectors ?
- any slots for additional memory cards ?

I have 4 Korgs and never had a key broken, it may be bad luck. Everything can break.

I bought it in April 2010 from eBay, but it was mint condition. I dunno how old it actually is!

Tbh, I did choose a korg partly for the reliability. Both my Microkorg and X5D feel like they're bulit like tanks :P The M50 is a little disappointing on that front, especially when you open it up. I'll take some clearer pictures with my better camera when I reassemble it.

They are most likely stored in the same Flash memory as the code. Anything else would be bad optimization.
