USB PROBLEM please Help!!!!!

Post by damir81 »

When I insert a USB device (USB stick or hard disk), entering into DISK MODE and selecting the USB device, the entire Kronos OS is freeze and stuck.
Nothing helps to return it to normal operating state except Shut Down the Kronos.
The same happens at the original version of the OS software and after upgrading to the latest version of the OS.
I try with different USB devices and also with different formats and with no success to fix this issue.
I tried to format USB device on Kronos, also with no success to fix this issue.

Does anyone have the same problem, Is it Korg informed with this big issue and how to resolve this?
Please help!

Did you already write/mailed to Korg support?

(btw, why do you write all in bold?)

The first thing to check is that you're not formatting the USB stick as NTFS... make sure its FAT16/32.

It seems he already tried that since the Kronos will format in FAT16 or 32 if I'm correct.

I had the same problem.

I ran full formats in FAT32 from my laptop as the Kronos wasn't recognising one of my USB sticks.
I found that the make of USB stick made a difference as even after formating the unrecognised USB stick remained unrecognised.

Also of interest; I have a 30Gb external hard drive which was partitioned into 5Gb FAT32 and 25Gb NTSF - the Kronos recognised the FAT 32 but not the NTSF (as expected) so I reformatted the NTSF partition to FAT32. However the Kronos only recognises the first 5Mb partition. (Not a big problem as I'll reformat the whole drive into a single partion and the Kronos should then read the whole 30Mb partition.

I was wondering if anyone else had experienced the same problem (not reading more than one partition) and whether this is how the Kronos reads external drives?

Damir: I assume that you have at least one USB stick that works with the Kronos? - (How did you perform the upgrade from the original version to 1.5.0 version?)

If so then maybe try using another USB stick (FAT32) of the same make?

First of all apologies to the bold writing, I did not know. sorry.
I did not write e-mail to korg support, do you have appropriate address to write?
Of course I tried to format USB through the Kronos to FAT16/FAT32 and sometimes everything is done successfully.

I want to mention that sometimes I still manage to do occasional loading of some sounds or samples with USB but this is in 5% of all attempts.
Software upgrade I managed to do without any problem with a USB stick, but later on I put some samples into the same USB stick and everything freezes.

Kronos always recognize my USB device, and problem occurs when I open the USB.

I dont think that the problem is in USB port or my USB sticks or drives ( i tried several USB devices and the problem is the same) I think that the problem is in software.

Product support (hardware and software) is provided by your Korg Country Distributor:
http://www.korg.co.jp/English/Distributors/index.html

I would suggest calling/phoning them so you can discuss your problem.

If your Country Distributor can't solve the problem, they will work with Korg Japan.
** KORG Product Support Contacts **
(they support BOTH hardware and software)

Korg USA Product support -- https://www.korgusa.com/contactus (For fastest service I would suggest calling them on the phone)

Outside the U.S. contact your Korg Country Distributor -- https://www.korg.com/us/corporate/distributors/

I will try to call them so I will let you know their response.
In the meantime, can I try system restore or something else?

You can load the PCG from the SSD.

The factory PCG is on the SSD (factory folder if I'm correct). Also the SNG file and other factory defaults can be found there.

But I do not need PCG restoring. I might have want to recover operating system in order to eliminate possible error if it exists at.

In that case you need a portable DVD drive if I'm correct, there is another thread about using DVD and which are compatible. I suggest contacting Korg support too.

I called Korg support. Guy from Korg advised me to try a factory restore and then to test USB functionality without loading any previous custom samples or sounds.
So, I will try system restore to factory settings and factory OS with Dvd rom.
I can only hope that it will not freeze during the upgrade.
