KRONOS Fan Information

Look. My whole point here is just this: There are a myriad of problems with the Kronos. From its initial release. We are yet to hear anything substantial from Korg on anything. New users keep coming to the forum wondering what is going on with their brand new wonderful Kronos.
Korg remains silent and keeps selling these defective units.
Now, we are supposed to tell them to relax, just take it to your nearest service center and all will be fine? Your brand new keyboard? Take it to your nearest Korg certified tech if you get one of the problem units and happen to notice it?
And the fan issue? A problem that has not even been recognized by Korg?
In all fairness it doesn't bother me beyond the point that it should not exist. Nobody hears my fan when I play in a club. But what about the studio guys?
Why are there still units being sold with this problem? That's what disturbs me. Why are end users left to remedying the problem on their own at risk of voiding their warranty? Why no official response from Korg?, with an official remedy, fix, and promise that no more units will be sold as new with this problem.

Kronos 73
please, please please, would you stop this kind of discussion here!
This thread is *only* for technical solutions.
It was explicitly created to get this technical topic separate from all that discussion about "is my fan too loud", "I don't hear my fan", "why doesn't Korg..." etc.
There are other threads to talk about that.

Aribo, you are right ... I will stop the discussion here.
Btw, on the first page is the solution (although with precautions and to be done yourself).

In Ukraine, where I live is very hard to find a 60mm fan, I'm not even talking about a quiet fan. But despite this, I found a fan that can satisfy our requirements. This is SUNON HA60251V4 http://www.tme.eu/ru/details/ha60251v4/ ... -000u-999/. It is made in Poland. I'll try to order one. I will describe the results of the installation when I get the fan.
But now I worry about the other question: is there sufficient air flow with this fan?
Fan specifications:
Fan type: DC
Fan dimensions: 60x60x25mm
Bearing type: Vapo
Supply voltage: 12V DC
Fans maximum flow rate: 23.46m3/h
Noise level: 13.8dBA
Rotational rate/speed 2500 (±15%)rpm
Power consumption 700mW
Static pressure 1.02mm H2O
Operating voltage range 4.5 ÷ 13.8V
Weight 41.5g
Rated current 60mA
Current and power consumption tolerance ±15%
Min. insulation resistance 500MΩ
Fan material thermoplastic PBT
Enclosure material thermoplastic PBT
Insulation class E
Operating temperature -10...70°C
Leads 2 300mm leads AWG28
Flammability rating UL94V-0
Fan motor brushless DC motor

Kronos noise
I'm a loyal Korg user. I have been using Korg keyboards from the late 1970's.The Kronos is a great machine. The noise is unacceptable!!!!. Has anyone approached Korg to find out what their response is? I believe it is a design flaw and it should not be up to the end users to carry out surgery on the machine. Korg!!!!!!! where are you and what are you going to do about it?
I think you could use an 80mm fan easy.. you might need to redrill the mounting holes or attach the fan with some good double sided tape.. The real tacky industrial grade.. I bet even a 90mm fan is possible.. then hook a FANMATE speed controller and lower the fan noise to silent.. I bet it would do the trick..

Ok here is what I will do to mine.. Hydro Dynamic Bearing with speed controller..

Results?
tiggie_00,
Were you able to install an 80mm fan? Did you achieve silence? Near silence?
Thanks,
David

I have not tried this yet but its only 10 extra MM.. Mounting would be a another goal. 70 to 80mm adapter might be the cleanest way to adapt.. It would be Silent .. look at the wire of the fan.. It has a speed controller. You can set the air flow as high or low as you want.. once you start to hear anything? You just back off the knob a tad and your cool.
You know the best way to mod the Kronos would be to put two fans in the bottom.. One exhaust fan and one intake.. one on each side to make constant air flow. Cut a hole like a pc case and put a grill plate on.. It could be done.. To me I look at the Kronos as a old pc that needs a good upgrading.. LOL Like that horrid Compaq pc from 1998

Replaced the fan of two Kronos, mine and that of a friend. Would recommend the Noise Blocker XR2 heartily. Added anti-vibration pins and silicon gasket. Easy fix and very low noise level (you really have to get close to the Kronos. And even so, it remains very faint). Perfect !
