How many using the Kronos live?
Moderators: Sharp, X-Trade, Pepperpotty, karmathanever
My live rig is the Kronos/JP80.
I answered yes, but I really don't play live once a week, more like once a month.

Excellent point. With the cost and sophistication of these instruments, a ups and a power conditioner is one smart move! I don't even turn my stuff on in my homes studio without these basic elements of protection.seapea wrote:Use it once a week live with a practice earlier in week at venue.
Would not consider using it without the the UPS and Furman power conditioner I use, to provide both clean power and protection from power surge or outage.

All caps in the set list function is a very crafty idea!daffyduxxx wrote:Hi,
I use my Kronos live for gigging every week, sometimes up to 3 or 4 nights a week.
So far no problems, touch wood.
The only gripe I have is I find the font on the set lists a little small to read easily from the playing position in dim lighting conditions.
I have named all my set list patches in Capital letters to make it as easy as possible to read.
I am always wary of a power failure and the Kronos boot up time, but I also use a Nord Electro 3 which boots almost instantly and has enough patches to get me out of trouble in an emergency.
Hope this is of some help.

Sounds like a good idea for PCG Tools too, to add a checkbox for automatically using capitals (maybe even for all selected set list slots or even all set list slots).DennyC wrote: All caps in the set list function is a very crafty idea!![]()

So far, I've only done one gig with it. That was in electronic downtempo dance mode - mainly for pads.
However, I've just started working with a band where I'm intending to use it as my main machine for bread-and-butter keyboard sounds (E-pianos etc.). Probably along with my Moog Voyager and Nord Lead 3 as the basic set-up (although, I do have various other synths I could use as well / instead).
It's not my main job though, so it's probably going to be a gig every couple of months or so.

I'm having my first very small gig (with a temporary band) Saturday ... however I am SURE it will sound great because I used it in rehearsal a lot and never let me down.

Mine leaves the house at least 2x-3x per week for gigs and/or rehearsals. Aside from having an issue with the keybed (which was prompted remedied by Sweetwater with a brand new unit) - I haven't experienced any of the issues that have been reported by others (i.e., spontaneous reboots, etc.)

I gig about twice a month and rehearse about 3 times a month. I'm using it tonight at a benefit show for a friend of ours who had hie entire drum set stolen. The kronos will work fine as it always has. I'm not yet using a UPS but I do use a power conditioner.

jeremykeys, a very nice gesture, having things stolen is the pits. I would only suggest the UPS in addition, not onlyas a time saving device, but also to aid in preventing a hardware error. I "used to be", one of my many hats, an environmental troubleshooter for computer systems.
The beauty of having the UPS is that you are guaranteeing that your Kronos indeed will shut down properly. I utilize one on both my Kronos and Oasys. These 2 boards are very sophisticated(after all, they are computers) and I want to do everything possible to avoid a potentially complicated problem. A power conditioner is great as it will prevent damage from spiking and surging, but, of course, it will not address the "catastropic shutdown" scenario.
I don't dare get on my Kronos this morning, as I have made coffee for my wife and waiting for her to get up and wish her Happy Mother's Day!

Well, the benefit gig went very well but there was a small hitch. After I tore down my studio, packed up my gear, loaded it into the car, got to the gig and started loading into the bar I found out that another keyboard player had shown up 2 hours earlier and had set up all his gear so there was no room for mine. It's a small club. He let me use his gear, 2 Triton Extremes, 1 an 88 and the other a 61 and that was very nice of him but I wish somebody had taken the time to let me know that I didn't need to bring my equipment.
The benefit went well. Not sure how much money was raised but it had to be a fair bit.
It truly sucks huge that somebody would steel a musicians instruments. 'm just glad I could be there to try and help.

I gig my K73 regularly, at least once per week. It's flightcased and goes off to each gig in a van full of the band's equipment & PA. I use it with a Fantom G7 above it, both ruuning through a shared UPS. The only 2 minor issues I've had is it's difficult to read the legending on the fascia in low light conditions. Once I accidentally hit the "Combi" button instead of the "Prog" button on the way from the set list to the on-screen pads... a shortcut to the pads from the set list screen would really help... or simply put them on their own tab within the setlist mode! It's also difficult to see the white vertical stripe on the main volume knob and so I am very often working out where the volume is set by touch rather than by sight.
Aside from those niggles, it performs flawlessly... I've even got over having to put the cardboard spacers in at the end of each gig

I've never used the cardboard spacers when transporting my K73. In fact they we're thrown out as soon as I got my Kronos home along with the box and packing foam. I could never actually believe that any synth that expensive would need them for shipping. I've never had a problem either.
