I don't have much experience with Sandisk other than basic memory cards. But currently the OCZ Agility 120gb sata 3 ssd is reduced from £159 to £79.99. I've just built a pc with one of these and I'm very impressed so far. Obviously you won't get the speeds advertised as the Kronos only has the standard Sata port, but Sata 3 is backwards compatible. Has anyone tried a Sata 2/3 drive in the Kronos?

PC Pro, July 2012, rated the Sandisk 4 out of 6 overall & 5 out of 6 for value for money based on £115 for the 120Gb drive.

Performance was towards the poorer end of the reviewed drives.

That makes that price look very attractive.

Thanks for the link. It's a good price for a 120 drive.

Performance is more than adequate compared with the factory drive. Plus, to make the most of the speed of a newer drive, you'd have to have a compatible board anyway. And the Intel D510 is not going to cater for SATAIII speeds. Whatever new drive you put in the Kronos, speed with slow down to what the motherboard allows.

It looks that SSD drives become cheaper and cheaper (which of course is normal, noticing that the are sold more than before now laptops/notebooks get more popular).

I would prefer OCZ Vertex 2. I received information in the computer service center, it was the best of SATA2.

The OCZ Vertex 3 (6G/120GB) goes for the same price as link to the Sandisk one above here in Ireland.

I'm thinking of placing an order for one today. Got to ask my wife first though.

Depends on your point of view. A SATA3 Drive will work on the KRONOS, it will just switch itself to SATA 2 mode.

This is good news. But what about read/write speed of SATA3 drive in 3Gb/s(SATA2) mode? It is not specified in the drive characteristics.

I asked OCZ a question like that regarding my laptop which has a SATA2 connection, and I wanted to install one of their SATA3 Drives.

They told me when a SATA3 Drive is connected to a SATA2 connection it will revert to a SATA2 mode and it will run at the maximum speed the SATA2 controller on the motherboard can take.

So in short, it will run as fast as the KRONOS motherboard can take.

Sharp.

If you want 100% verification the drive works, just hold on a few days. I'm ordering the exact model I posted above today and chances are I will have it by Wednesday to install in my KRONOS.
