I have used the Kronos on live gigs several times. And one of the things i love the most about it is the SST as sometimes I tend to go out of the Setlist and select something new.
However i absolutely dislike the fact that there isn't any Octave Up/Down or Transpose Up/Down key for that matter.
But it has been reliable so far. Looks stylish from the front too. Actually was a conversation starter between me and a girl backstage after a show
Motif XF7 + Kronos 61 mounted on a K&M Spider Pro! Bliss!
Took mine out in it's brand new Gator case to its first rehearsal, with the band call and show coming up at the end of this week.
Thanks to many on this forum and comprehensive manuals, I've now got set lists, created programs and combis including layers, splits and working connection to a JV1080 external module (using EX2 to utilize the MSB/LSB bank function), and looking forward to playing "The Wedding Singer" with a large pit band. (http://www.glocmt.org.uk/).
However, I'm still concerned about UPS and power conditioning. Apart from Furman gear, no one has mentioned what they use. Is a home pc type of UPS sufficient, for instance. I would appreciate knowing what people have tried and tested.
Ken:)
Semi-retired, semi-pro pit band musician and jobbing pianist and MD. Oops, protocol suggests I should put a list. Recently deceased: Roland A90, Wirth grand piano, Roland SD300, Lowrey portable organ. Current: Yamaha upright, Korg Kronos 73, Korg N364, Juno 60 and other pretty things.
I use a 650VA Trust PW-4065T UPS. I'm not sure they make that exact model anymore, the nearest would be the PW-4080T (http://www.trust.com/products/product.a ... rtnr=15599) but any recogniseable brand named UPS in the 600-800VA range will do the job.
Kronos 73 Mk1, Roland Fantom 07 and a studio full o'stuff!
Thanks for the info DaveB. Looks as though it might be quite heavy for its size...

I play once a week and there hasn't been a gig where I haven't been approached by audience members on how amazing the Kronos sounds. It just cuts through and never fails to impress.
I use mine for live gigs as well. But, what is a UPS?
It's an Uninterruptible Power Supply. In case the main power supply suddenly cuts off, fluctuates or surges, you've got a back up power supply which will prevent the Kronos from rebooting or worse, damage its memory. Good to have on stage. 2 minutes is an eternity if your K is starting up in the middle of your set.
I gig at least 3 times per week, plus rehearsals. My only problem, a couple of screws came loose inside the unit. I opened it up to keep them from shorting out something. After taking off the bottom plate, we CAREFULLY turned it over to find the screw.... NEVER I REPEAT... N E V E R DO THIS! Dumb, dumb, dumb! After the heart attack, we found the screw. We gathered up the heap, and slowly and methodically put humpty back together again. Now, Sweetwater gave us the go ahead to open it. Anyway, a week later, another screw came loose! (NOW HERE IS ThE GOOD PART)... even after almost 2 months of having it, Sweetwater sent me a new one BEFORE I sent this back! They believe it might have been one of their techs because I had them install the memory upgrade. I pledge my allegience to Sweetwater! Anyway, I was performing with the Kronos 61, Motif XS-7, Fantom G, and the AX Synth ketar. As if present, I use only the Kronos and Keytar. This seamless switch, and program slots have just blown me away. I may occassionally use the other boards, but only because I have so many sequences with them, and I need the Motif's guitars!... Hint Hint!
I love my girl,
Firstlovedan
PS, if anyone does decide to choose Sweetwater as their source of all things musical, talk to Brandon, and mention my name. They have treated my like a King, and their knowledge if their products blows away the competition! Hope I didn't break any rules here, but knowlegable sales persons make the Kronos Experience so much more enjoyable!

i recommend using my UPS (see my signature).. it's pretty small and lightweight.. maybe 2 kilos?? that's not much right?? and it's really worth it..
Love my kronos 88
Love my yamaha psr s910 as well
Korg Kronos 88, Yamaha PSR s910, Korg C720, Yamaha DTX 520, Focusrite Scarlett 18i6, a pair of Yamaha HS80 in (soon not to be) an unproperly treated room..
I use it in our church, and with the band practice nights I am using the Kronos pretty much once a week outdoors. I use also a Yamaha CS6XR with VL150 plug-in, combined with a breath controller(love the thing and it is the only thing I really miss on the Kronos).
Furthermore a B4000 for the hammond sounds and NI KORE loaded with all kinds of VST's. Occassionally the microkorg. Since I am using the Kronos, I am using my laptop with VST's less and less... In church is also a Roland D50 available, but I have to shamefully admit that I only use it as midi controler.

Isn't it possible to use the breath controller on a Kronos? I would assume it send CC messages which you can use for any AMS?
And you don't have to be shamefull, I'm using a Triton Extreme as MIDI slave.

+1 for conversation starter

Probably you can, using a midiman to connect the BC, and with some soundediting of course. However what I especially like is the physical modelling of breath instruments by Yamaha's plug-in board. May be not the most precise emulation of real instruments, but it is so expressive playing. Yamaha discontinued it, otherwise I might even have bought an XF over the Kronos, just for this feature... The Kronos has also physical modelling with the AS module, but it doesn't give me that expressive feeling as the breath controlled instruments of Yamaha do.
Yes, I do gigs, but not once a week. More like once a month.. The rest of my K usage is creating programs/combi's at home and random home studio stuff.
