Would you consider getting the editor for a fee?

Yes, I would.

A fee? I'd rather continue not using this functionality of my synth.

T-series EX multisound editor

Post by synthjoe »

I decided to open a new topic as the development of the T-series multisound editor appears to have progressed sufficiently for a teaser. See a screenshot of the main screen - hopefully the concept will be clear from it.

Image

You can see all loaded samples on the right hand side (you'll be able to seamlessly load and save samples via SDS using you computer from within this program). You shall also be able to edit basic parameters of the samples (sampling freq, loop points) for creative purposes and finishing touches.

Samples can be assigned to multisounds managed on the left hand side, where you can create and delete multisounds and edit any detail of them. I'm also planning to include some sort of a 'template' funcionality that would allow a 'keymap' to be saved and reused, ready for sample assignment.

Any feedback, suggestion will be welcomed and considered, but I cannot warrant any of it being implemented in the release. As it stands I don't think I will be able to release the editor free of charge, but will try to set a fee as low as possible. Could you please vote to let me know where we stand on this?

Thanks for reading!

Hello SynthJoe,

:D :D :D

This is absolutely beyond brilliant. My finger is on the Paypal Button right now! I use a different method which works, but this would be much better so I'm very excited about it. Great job! I'm very impressed.

You definitely should receive some support for this so please keep us updated on the release date. Much appreciated.

Thanks a lot for your support, Jim! It is a very important motivating factor helping me to cross the finishing line.

I'm just in the process of making a demo video - I thought the static picture might not be appealing enough to attire interest, no posts but mine for almost a month, and only a few dozen views...

Yesterday I've just completed all main functions, replaces, deletes, etc. - only some minor things remain, like the screen to set options (which are set up from the program code, right now), setting original and top keys from the synth's keyboard directly, saving files of your work, etc.

I must say - without wanting to appraise my work - that I really do enjoy working with it a lot as it makes the creation of multisamples intuitive and fun - at least to me. :D Maybe others will have a different view, but I'll try to iron that out upfront with the short demo video that is due to be out by early next week.

Release date is very much a function of the interest I experience... ;)
So be sure to post, if you're interested - to everybody! I'd be particularly interested in the solution that is currently used by the one voter, maybe I could learn something from the process and tools (s)he is using...

Hi SynthJoe,

I think via midi there are few options to just directly dump a sample into the T2. I've done this before and it worked, BUT, it wasn't nearly as visual or well organized as your solution. I've tinkered with a few different ideas to get samples in there, but frankly there is nothing available to everyone with a T2/T3 willing to pay and support a project like this. Multimaker from Korg is not available and for those who have it, I understand why they keep tight grips on it. I get a lot of emails on my blog about getting PCM samples into the T2/T3, but it's definitely not as straight forward and "fun" like with your solution. Kudos to the work you've put into this and I'll definitely be referring people to your project to help generate support. I look forward to the release and will keep my eye out on your progress.

My process for loading PCM samples is as follows:

"I use a regular SDS transfer program on my Apple G4 to transfer samples to the T2. This is very fast because you are primarily transferring very small samples due to the limited size of Flash Ram. Samples transferred via SDS will ONLY occupy the drum kit slots. It will not occupy the multi-sample area. To get the samples into the multi-sample area you then need to save the transferred samples to your floppy disk drive. Then you can load them directly to your multi-sample bank area. Only samples loaded from floppy can get into the multi-sample area."

Believe, there is NOTHING out there right now available to everyone, so you definitely will have the full stage once this is completed. :verycool:

as you know at the moment i have to dump to the dsm1 then save it to a perfomance disk and then load that into the t1 and t3ex

and because you can only get 32 multisounds on the 4 banks 8 per bank

and can only load 2 banks at a time being 16 multisounds but becuase of the sample linitation of the t series of 100

then you can get alot less due to sample overload

on the dsm1 each multisound can have upto 16 samples

where as if you want to have the full amount of multisounds means that you can have no more than 4 samples per multi sound

and at the moment i have to load 16 multisounds then save them to disk then reload another 2 banks to get another set of 16 multisounds and save that to disk

then i have to load each pcm in to get the full 27 multi sounds and then save that to disk

its doable but time consumming

with your program it would be much quicker and visual

i already had to by a dumping program

so having your functionality would be great

then all i have todo is wait for toms memory upgrade with resonace functionality and have 16 samples at 256k each at 32khz giving me 8 seconds of sample time

as the same as my dss1 upgrade 32khz sound warmer less high frequencie content and less aliasing

Thanks for all the information above!
Well, it really does look as cumbersome to create a number of multisamples on the T as I thought it is - I only had the desire for long, but have not tried anything. It seems to me it was a good decision to invest so much time into that tool, after all (was tempted to give up after the first couple of weeks, as I only planned to spend a few days with programming).

I'll post the video early next week, hope you'll like it! (From what you both have described, I think you will! ;))

well cant wait will be good to just dump once
into one machine and work with that machine

then my 2 dsm1 can wait for the upgrades and become great machines with 4 multi parts

are you able to also add functionality to the dss1x and dsm1

as it would be neat as when you load wav files into the dss1-x you dont get the loop info so you have to try and set it in the dss1-x which is time consuming

i always dump mine via a sysex sample dump program called sample wrentch

which send the loop info to the machine

but have to send 8-16 samples then create a dss1-x multisample file

if your program could do the same as your doing on the tseries

would be alot easier than looking at a small 20x2 lcd display

also it would be nice also to have a visual display of the additive 128 patial engine so that you could set the partials from a nice comp screen

what would be good is if you had sample resample that could set the waveform into additive partial volume data

like you can on the microwave editors then you could copy the data to the partial data of the dss1 and dsm1

i can already do it i use an fft program that gives me partial volume data

then i have to use the data and manually put the partial number and its volume amount into the dss1 and dsm1 which takes ages

having a visual with sliders for each partial would be a lot quicker adding functinality to your program

and kmp files import feature would be a quick way of getting samples and multisounds done quickly as always do sf2 samples then use awave to change the format to what ever i want as i do with the trinity

Sorry for being gone this long - changing my ISP gave me an involuntary 1 month break in internet access. Plus I have a new job now which will take probably 10+ hours of my day, but this project is a very important one to me - so you can count on me finishing it (hopefully soon)!

Let's get this out the door, then I'll consider your ideas (which are great and I like them big time) for the DSS-1 - even though SDS handling under Windows sucks big time!

Will try to finish the demo video I have started almost 2 months ago, then do the remaining functions/screens of the software. This latter should take probably something in the order of 4-5 working days, but I don't know as of the present when I'll be able to shoehorn this time into my current agenda... Will keep all of you posted here as and when things happen! Thanks for the support and interest!

Hi,

Talking about importing/editing PCM samples in T-series synthesizers, I think the following tool could be useful within the context of this thread:
There is an open source tool called "korgutils", which can be used to import/export PCM samples to/from Korg T-series synthesizers (with EX upgrade) via floppy disks (instead of MIDI/SDS): http://sourceforge.net/projects/korgutils/

The currently available version is still a console application (command line program). It consists of the following tools:
* tfloppylist: floppy image listing and file + PCM sample export (in WAV format)
* wav2t: convert WAV samples to Multisounds and Drum Sounds on a floppy image
* tformat: read/write/format T-series floppies

Hope this is helpful.

Michael/kmi9000,

It appears that you are the author of "korgutils".
If so, would you please verify that?

This is what i've commented in my previews posts. So far, based on the trials i made of the korgutils programs, it's a great beginning for the development of a great tool for the T series.

I've only tested the tfloppylist.exe ans the wav2t.exe

The tfloppylist.exe lists everything on the disk img, type of format, list of samples, multisounds, progs, combis, songs, patterns and drum samples and kits.

Adding the "file" command it also extracts all the files on the disk to current folder
Adding "wav" command, extracts all the individual samples on the multissounds to Wav files and creates a log file with the info on all samples

The wav2t.exe allows you to assemble a group of samples in to a T multissound and to create a disk img in T format with the multisamples, ready to send to the T3, greattt!! :-)

The Tformat.exe is for formatting T disks.

If the development goes even further in to a full windows application its a new live for the T series. I can's wait for further developments.
