And, would that include an updated decal with the "X" on it? :D

Anyone contacted a service center to get a quote on adding a drive? Does that vary greatly from one center to another?
Service centers won't have info on this quite yet, but they should soon.
Thanks, Dan. I'm getting a little ahead of myself, I suppose.

OS 2.0 sounds great!

Any bug fixes, or minor improvements to the OS?..
Yes and yes.

danatkorg wrote: User Sample Banks work similarly to EXs:
* You can load them using VMT
* KSCs can contain *references* to Samples and Multisamples in User Sample Banks, instead of needing to contain the data itself. This means that you can create subsets, or alternatively supersets with multiple User Sample Banks loaded via a single KSC.
* User Sample Banks are identified by a unique ID, which doesn't change when the move on disk or load them onto a different system - so Programs etc. always point to the correct samples - no need for PCGs to be in the same folder as the samples, or to load samples in a particular order etc.

I'm glad to see the positive reactions to this!

There have been no changes to Program bank editing, however.
Thanks for the info Dan, can't wait to dig in! Is there any detailed documentation yet available beyond marketing?

On a side note, here some other thoughts:
-As this appears to be a std Kronos with a Larger SSD and the RAM expanded with OS 2.0, were there any other enhancements besides the "Red X" that warranted a whole new Model Name? Just to simplify inventory?

-One other thing that I'm not upset about, but don't understand is: If we were going to get Ethernet anyway, why didn't you guys just use the one already BUILT IN to the motherboard and put a port on the back? Security to put a layer between the LAN and the motherboard through the "Shark"? Just kind of weird.

-This may have been answered already, but as the list of usb peripherals keeps growing, is the Kronos compatible with a powered hub?

-I would like to add a 2nd SSD to the Kronos. Is there a list of compatible drives or at least a published spec to adhere to?

Thanks again for your continued hard work. Can't wait to see the next round!

Thanks Dan, yes the editor works already....just slower than I was hoping for :D (as for the plugin - well, suffice to say Logic didn't like it too much :D -
Yes, Logic has problems with large SysEx data transfers. The manual notes this, and a couple of ways to work within Logic's constraints:

* * *

Logic 8 and 9

When large data transfers are made from the KRONOS to the KRONOS plug-in, the Logic host application will generate memory allocation errors even though the plug-in is not requesting any memory from the host. These errors also occur when simply recording the SysEx output of the KRONOS into Logic without the plug-in installed.

It is not clear why these errors occur, other than that the errors are unrelated to the Korg KRONOS software.

We recommended that, if you are using Logic as your AU host, you should load smaller amounts of data from the KRONOS at a time - just one or two banks at a time. Also, save frequently when transferring data from the KRONOS to the plug-in.

These memory allocation errors cause Logic to reset all of the plug-ins currently in use and loads them with the last known good saved data. If you do not save the Logic song frequently and one of these resets occurs, you will find that you will have lost all of the data that was loaded from the Kronos and you will need to start over.

Please note that this only an issue when receiving the data from the KRONOS. Transmission to the KRONOS works without issue.

Also, there is a way to avoid this problem completely. After instantiating the KRONOS plug-in, instead of loading data from the instrument, load a Set file from disk that contains the same data as is currently found in theKRONOS. This completely bypasses the SysX load process and avoids the potential of a Logic reset.

To create a Kronos data Set file and import it into Logic:
1. Run the stand-alone version of the Kronos Editor.
2. Click on the “Kronos Transfer” tab in the lower right corner.
3. Click on the “ALL” button in the “ALL BANKS” section of the transfer page.
4. Click on the “Get from Kronos" button in the “ALL BANKS” section of the transfer page.
5. When the editor has finished loading all of the data, choose Save Set As... from the File menu.
6. Name the file “AU Data” and press the Save button.
7. Quit the editor and run Logic.
8. In Logic, create a new Software Instrument track and select the Korg Kronos plug-in for it.
9. Open the editor for the plug-in.
10.Right-click (Windows) or control-click (Macintosh) anywhere in the interface to display the contextual menu.
40
Using the KRONOS Editor VST and AU Plug-ins
11.Choose Open Set... from the menu.
12.With the file selector, choose the “AU Data” file saved in step 6.

so good I didn't go running to the store to buy a Kronos and sell my M3, nowadays, maybe, I will...but I will trade my M3 for a Kronos X not for the OLD KRONOS
I've been having KronoseX for a year and you aint :P
Good for you!!!!! I really don't care to have the newest keyboard, that is not for me, I really care to have best sound on my fingers!! And I keep on working for that!! Enjoy your kronos, or kronos x, I still enjoy my M3 expanded!
The Kronos is considered to have better sounds than the M3.

Dan (or someone else) ... is it possible to receive/send a PCG file through USB/Ethernet directly? (without the need of copying it on a USB stick)

Would be nice to have received the email from Korg about this new X.

Tempted to get a whole new Kronos now instead of upgrading my existing one.

I suspect the new ones may be selling at the old price - hope they too are priced lower. Korg could do very well if that happens.

You could probably pre-order, I don't think they will be shipping until the end of the month. Musician's Friend has a listing, I would imagine most of the usual online retailers will be following suit shortly.

Andertons has the following note:

The Korg Kronos X will be available to order from Andertons soon. Prices are expected to be somewhere in the region of £2699, £3099 & £3299 for the 61, 73 and 88 key versions respectively.
