DI-TRI and wordclock questions

Post by syah »

I'm considering buying a DI-TRI for my TR rack. Does anybody know if you need the BNC connector for syncing the digital signals? Thusfar I never needed wordclock to digitally sync a signal, because the digital sync signal was transmitted thought the ADAT cable (lightpipe) to my RME HDSP9652. Does the DI-TRI send sync signals through the lightpipe also?

And another question. Do I need to solder to get the board fitted inside my rack? I read the installation instructions on this forum for installing into a Trinity, but does the same thing about soldering apply to the TR rack?

Okay, since nobody could answer my questions, I'll do it myself. Maybe it'll help someone in the future.

I received the DI-TRI today and the installation was not difficult at all. The black wire was already connected to the (grounding) ring. Just assembled the thing logically (didn't need to google at all) and closed the TR rack again.

After that I hooked it up to my RME (adat3 in) and set the preferred sync to adat3 (adat1+2 are used by my 16 analog inputs) and it all worked (RME=master). Signals were digitally synced in a jif :)... so no wordclock cable needed!

Only problem is that it's 48kHz, so when trying to play a 44.1kHz signal I get an errormessage and no sound. Workaround for that is, power down the TR and use my DAW (Ableton) to set the preferred sample playback back to 44.1. This will reset the RME to 44.1 and the 44.1 signal can be played again.

I always have the same issue. So all my projects are recorded at 48k.
Otherwise, your Trinity will have pops and clicks while you play it. In other words, the entire project has to be at 48k. You can record stuff at 44.1k, but while you play back your trinity, it will not match the 44.1k.
I know its kind of confusing, so I just record everything at 48k to keep things simple.
Best,

Hi guys!

I am trying to sample some multisamples from Trinity's baserom thru the optical output in my K2000S.

The problem is that the K2000S does not receive anything. No data, no lock, nothing...

Any ideas please?

I think the digital input on your sampler isn't capable of doing ADAT transmissions. Probably SPDIF and AES/EBU only (stereo in). I saw that here:

You need an adat input (8 tracks through lightpipe).

Yes, indeed.
I figured out that the ADAT optical is different from the spdif optical...

Is there any way of transkation or adaptiation of this signal or only thru ADAT machine...?

There are ways to do this, but they are quite expensive.

Maybe you can find an old RME adi8dd. http://www.rme-audio.de/old/english/adi/adi8dd.htm. But I guess they still are expensive.

Does anybody know of a converter that doesn't cost a fortune?

Thank you for your answer!
Finally I decided to go for a usb-2 audio interaface that has all the possible digital format inputs and outputs, so any sampling action will take place thru this interface.  :) :D
