Loading individual sounds

Post by Pianomanjess »

I'm sure this has been asked, but i could not find it in search.
How do I load individual sounds like the ones available on the download section of the forums? I can load, but where do they load to, how can I find them?
Any help or links to help me, or information in the guidebook I would greatly appreciate!
Thanks!

Hi Pianomanjess - I'm afraid I'm not what you're asking!

On one hand you ask how to load then you say that you can load. So I'm confused.

AFAIK, individual sounds can't be saved/loaded - only complete banks can (even if they only have 12 sounds in them are are not a full 128 library).

Generally speaking (on the O) 3rd party sounds will load into User-G. But can also be User-A.

During the process you can nominate which bank to load the sounds to - see load dialogue box, where it says '.PCG Contents: All'? Tap on the word 'All' and you can say which banks you want to load. Once you've done that, another select list appears 'Load to' - there you select the destination bank on your O for the sounds. Then tap Load.

Am not sure if this helps - but I hope it does! :)

PCG Tools can be used for copy/pasting between different (of same) PCG file(s).

Hi Pianomannjess,

to load individual sounds you choose the pcg file on your hard dis, then press the open butten then opens the directory with all banks then again you press the open button and then you have the individual sounds. You chose one and press the load button.... then in the context menue you are asked where to save (load to :) and you chose where to load. That´s it.
But Cello is right. With saving there is only the possibility to save banks besides using pcg tools.

hope that helps

For instance I downloaded the Shakuachi (Enigma) file from the download section, I unzipped to a thumb drive and opened file on my OASYS. There is an ENIGMA file, a .KSC file, and a .PCG file. I click on the .PCG file and click load, check the box "Load ENIGMA.KSC too". Next to .PCG contents is All (which i had never noticed or paid attention to before this post, thank you!) which i changed to "bank U-A To: Bank U-A". The clear button is marked next to .KSC Allocation, and I hit OK.

A box comes up that says "file conains unsupported data" with an OK box.
Hit OK.
another box comes up. The top of that box says "Where is a ENIGMA.KSC file". I choose ENIGMA.KSC and hit select.
Another box comes up that says "file conains unsupported data" with an OK box. and Ok once again brings up the Where is a ENIGMA.KSC file.
I tried to "skip file" but no sound would play.

The file for download JUDIT which is a pad sound says "There is no readable data" when i try to load the .KSC and .PCG files in it.
(the electric guitar download gives this same message as well as a Triple-strike piano I downloaded off the forums)

Lastly there is a power synth download that says it is compatible. The file is called DUSTY, and there is only a .KMP file. when i click on load and click ok, it appears to load but without asking where the file loads to, and I can't find it.

I assume not all these files are bad, just that I am going about it the wrong way.

Thank you guys for all your help, you guys are great!

Working in reverse order (have just tested everything on my O);

1. Dusty016 is a sample file. It doesn't load to either comb or prog banks. To hear it, go into sampling mode, in the multisample drop down at the top of the page (highlighted by default) you will see the third sample is 'DUSTY016'. Highlight it and play - you can now hear the sound. If you want to use it is a prog, you need to convert it from a sample to a program.

2. Judit - I get the same result 'no readable data'

3. Shakuachi - I get a different result from you. I can load it fine, but there is no sound when it is selected in prog mode

I'm not quite sure what this then all means! We've solved #1 so that's fine.

But #2 and #3 I have no idea what's going wrong. Possibly Judit has become corrupted on the server - or has been converted to Kronos format in which the error message are likely to be the same. The Shak - have no idea; perhaps someone else can test/chime in?

Thank you very much, I am still trying to learn all the functions of the O. I am still very much a noob. These are not sounds I need, but I was just interested to try. I did however learn how to load files into a chosen bank and how to find and play a sample file!
Thank you very much for your time and knowledge!
