USB - Ethernet Adaptors
Hi
I purchased an Apple USB - Ethernet Adaptor as recommended in the Kronos manual, the adaptor was initially recognised by the Kronos and showed the Router address and the connected IP Address, I then went to the PC to set up the FTP and could not see the Kronos. I then went back upstairs and the Kronos was displaying a message saying a cable was disconnected. I have tried a couple of cables, contacted the seller that I bought the adaptor from and then tried a new one. Still the same problem.
The USB Sockets still work with a conventional stick inserted.
I have the latest Operating System installed (2.0.2)
Any one had similar problems with the USB - Ethernet Adaptors.
Fred

I have the same adaptor and I don't ever remember having a problem.
This is a long shot but here goes anyway.....I only ever use Static IP's on our network. Maybe there is something in that ?
Maybe the router scanning, or other devices are causing problems with Dynamic IP's that make the KRONOS disconnect.
It's a real long shot, I know.

Sharp.

Re: USB - Ethernet Adaptors
As I understand it, you have a very long UTP-cable running from your Kronos to your router.Fred x wrote:...I then went to the PC to set up the FTP and could not see the Kronos. I then went back upstairs and the Kronos was displaying a message saying a cable was disconnected.
While this theoretically shouldn't be an issue (the maximum length for a CAT5 UTP-cable segment is 100 meters), in this specific case it might be the cause of your problem.
If I am correct, then a machine detects whether a network cable is connected or not by the presence of an electrical signal.
Longer cables weaken that signal, thus making a network card think there's nothing connected.
In your case it might be resulting in an unstable signal, resulting in a connection that breaks up.
I might be far off with this assumption though.
Does your router show when a network cable gets connected (by LED for example)?
In that case take out the Kronos UTP-cable and plug it back into your router.
See if a LED turns on on your router, showing that a cable is connected.
I think network cards can already detect connectivity without IP-address.Sharp wrote:I only ever use Static IP's on our network. Maybe there is something in that ?

Connectivity is on the physical layer of networks, whereas IP-adddress is on the network layer (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OSI_model).

Hi Guys
Many thanks for taking the time to respond.
When I initially plugged in the adaptor the DCHP setting detected the router and was allocated the next available IP address, after about 3 mins (yes the adaptor was quite hot) it showed that a cable was disconnected. the second adaptor did not show any connection at all.
My network is quite small as far as distance is concerned although it is a multi-node one with several Ethernet switches.
I will have to get out the manual for the router and then select manual addressing.

I highly doubt you need to touch the router. It's extremely likely it’s already running a static IP.I will have to get out the manual for the router and then select manual addressing.
It's the KRONOS you should only have to work on. Just connect the KRONOS, and whatever Dynamic IP it jumps to when connected will be displayed on the screen. Make note of this number, then change the options to Static on the KRONOS nd enter in the number you wrote down.
Hopefully that will do the trick.
Regards
Sharp.

Hi Sharp
When I conned the adaptor it does not allocate a Dynamic address, although the first time a couple of days ago it did for 3 or 4 mins.
I have logged on to the Router and checked settings etc. Surprisingly it showed a connected device (korg) but when I rebooted the router it disappeared from the list.
I have allocated an IP address manually but it still shows cable disconnected. It will not allow me to change configuration (host Name) just says config failed.

That really sounds like a physical connection error.
Question is: which equipment is the cause?
It could be the port you're using on your router.
Not sure if you have more empty ports, but if so, then try to plug the UTP-cable into a different port.
Sometimes UTP-ports get a bit wacky.
Also make sure that your USB Ethernet adapter is plugged in firmly/properly into your Kronos.
Might want to try the other USB-port on the Kronos as well.

KRONOS 88 and MAC connection using Apple USB ETHERNET adapt.
Hi there,
Got the same issue when trying to connect the KRONOS to my MAC PRO using the recommended Apple RG45/USB adapter.
When you use FTP you can connect but really it's quite primitive and it should be a lot more straight forward. I was hoping for the hard drive to appear on the MAC as a mounted device with full sharing access.
The ID and password as well are not documented anywhere, I could not find any reference to it. I know it's kronos/kronos but again it should be clearly stated somewhere.
Finally, there is no way to have the KRONOS hooked up as a network device, I could not find a network ID field on the network parameters screen.
I thing it's just a question of time before those issues are solved with a new O/S release.
Hope it helps.
Cheers.

Re: KRONOS 88 and MAC connection using Apple USB ETHERNET ad
You can do this with third-party Mac software if desired.copajaus wrote:Hi there,

For ftp, I use Transmit and like it a lot. Cyberduck is a free alternative.
These parameters and their defaults are described in the Network section of the Parameter Guide.copajaus wrote:The ID and password as well are not documented anywhere, I could not find any reference to it. I know it's kronos/kronos but again it should be clearly stated somewhere.
Can you describe what you mean by "hooked up as a network device" and "network ID field?"copajaus wrote:Finally, there is no way to have the KRONOS hooked up as a network device, I could not find a network ID field on the network parameters screen.
In general, this part of the Parameter Guide may be helpful:
Global -> P0: Basic Setup -> 0–5: Network

Networking and Korg Kronos
Hi Dan,
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
What I am talking about is the assignation of a network/workgroup name so I can declare the KRONOS as part of my home network.
Basically, I would like the Hard drive on the KRONOS to be mounted and available on my MAC PRO like a standard USB drive would.
So far I have been unsuccessful doing so. If I am missing something, let me know.
May be in future O/S releases....
Cheers.

The Kronos offers FTP only, so if your OS allows you to mount FTP servers as drives you are ok.
Apple in their ultimate wisdom only allow you to mount FTP servers as read only, they probably thought you don't need to write to them, or it was untidy or something!
On OS X mount it using Finder->Go->Connect To Server for the server address use this format:
ftp://username:password@kronos.local
As Dan says the easiest way is to use some app that gives you finder type access to fit, I use FileZilla which works well for me.

This is a complete step backwards - Triton Extreme had it!!
I realise this does not help anyone trying to connect their Kronoses (Kronii?) to FTP servers, but just in case anyone from Korg is reading, why did you not go for the very simple solution that the Triton Extreme had?
On the Extreme, there was a setting, under the Media\Utility menu that allowed you to use the USB midi connection to connect the Extreme's Memory Cards and External USB storage to the PC / Mac host the midi USB was connected to.
The Extreme storage then appeared as a drive in File Manager / My Computer / etc. You could move data to and from the Extreme. Then when you had finished, flip the virtual switch on the Extreme and the storage was re-mounted by the Triton. Simples.
The M3 did not have anything like this and I am very disappointed that the Kronos has to have this clumsy workaround. Please Korg, go back to how it was done in the Extreme.
