Clever man, I support ya.

Is it just me or were there not so many failure at gig stories for OASYS? I seem to stumble upon comparatively quite a lot of such reports for Kronos (not just on this forum, mind you, but also from some people I know - which is really a shame). I guess Korg really cheapened out even on the most important part of any electronic product, the power supply. Well screw that!
I dont see how it can be the power supply. If it was a power supply issue, it would happen more often, and eventually die alltogether. More likely, it is hardware (memory, SSD), or software related.

I think that there weren't a lot of gig stories for the Oasys was becuase no one wanted to bring an $8000 keyboard on the road.

Indeed several OASYS users gigged them - Rudess being one - and also members here at KF.

K being half the price of an O of course indicates that costs were cut - but where? Well, we'll never know about the inside but the casing itself is obviously cheaper, as with the smaller screen. But the O was built like a tank (inside and outside) and hence there are no stories about gigging incidents

But that aside, I don't gig and just as well - have you tried carrying an OASYS? It weighs at least three tonnes!!! ;)

I'm very sorry to hear that your KRONOS restarted in the rehearsal. In my experience, there are two things that can cause this:

1. A bug in older versions of the KRONOS software could cause a crash when using VMT. Solution: upgrade to 2.0.2 or later.

2. Poorly seated RAM modules. Solution: reseat RAM modules and make sure that they are firmly in place. If that does not solve the problem, replace the RAM.

Did any of the people reporting problems upgrade their own RAM or SSDs?

ALL keyboards are prone to the odd failure of one thing or another.
Tell the guy who has the Fantom that I had a couple of MIDI issues that caused the wrong sound from my outboard - or none at all.

My Fantom XR (which I gig) has also had the odd problem of samples not loading on boot up.

I had a total PSU failure on my Kronos six months or so ago but the mother board was replaced and it has been perfect at every gig since (touch wood).

Getting rid is a bit drastic with only one occurence!
It could be dirty power or just a glitch.

Not true. Just to name a few artists who used the OASYS on live tours:

Chuck Leavell (Rolling Stones)
Herbie Hancock
Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater)
Keith Emerson
Greg Phillinganes
Tony Banks (Genesis)
etc.

I've never experienced any problems with my OASYS-88 on stage, as it is an absolutely reliable instrument.

Well spotted.
According to this forums alone, you are right on this one.

Well, it just happened to me. Setting up a new combi for this weekend. Messing around with Karma (first time) and suddenly, reset and boot failed. Turned it off, then back on and booted fine.

Was running 2.05. Just upgraded to 2.06. Ugh!

i gig with my K61 for 2 years now, 1-2 a week. Never had any problem. It's the most reliable keyboard I had so far, never had a broken part either. All boards i had before broke something, mostly keys (i hit them hard..)

Your time will come. Seems like Kronos has it in its DNA to fail sooner or later.

Can anyone recommend a reliable, reasonably prices UPS?
Thanks
This was previously discussed in a couple of threads.

Most of us thought APC built quality, reliable and affordable products in this space. You won't go wrong with this.

I've been using one for over a year (see the 2nd page of the above thread) with K61 and i'm quite happy with this. APC BACK UPS ES 650VA gives around 1 hour back up as well. Regionaly, models could vary.

True, no question about it. But as far as I'm reading, Kronos has had way more crash-on-stage problems than PC3/K/LE. My PC3K8 has been and continues to be rock solid from day one.

I never had a power problem, neither before I used a UPS and after it (I know use the UPS during rehearsals and gigs, and never at home).
