Second, note that the hardware calibration data (including keyboard response, ranges for pedals, joysticks, knobs, sliders etc.) is stored on the boot SSD. If a service center needs to replace the boot SSD, they will also carry out the complete calibration procedure. If this is not done, the hardware may not work as expected. Calibration is only supported through authorized service centers.
Does this also apply if someone simply wants to reinstall the OS with the format option?
I want to know that too. Will I lose all the calibration data if I format and reinstall ???
If you use the original SSD, and do a format and reinstall from the Korg DVDs, calibration data is read from the SSD before formatting, and then stored back to the SSD.

Dan, while that may be so, I formatted this SSD via my PC while it was out of the K, so I could also do a physical drive check for bad sectors etc, after all the issues I had.

I did this JUST to be sure the SDD had all bad sectors marked (if any) so that when it was installed back into the K, I knew I would not have to touch the system again.

So far, System disk (Korg) and DATA disk (Samsung) are playing together nicely.

Thx

Dennis

PS: Can you make any comment on whether Korg will eventually include the calibrations tools so the end user can make their own?

PPS: I have also spoken with a 3rd party parts supplier (Parts is Parts) and they have had NO knowledge of faulty keypads...IE no contact from Korg so they have told me they would be interested to get this data, if valid, from Korg so they know they are providing the updated pads.

I know it is unrelated here, but while you are reading ;)

Strangely, it sounds like some other manufacturers may only support half-pedaling as a global option. :-)

The KRONOS allows you to enable/disable for each Program, since the effect (modulating the Amp EG release time by pedaling during the release phase) is, as noted in the Parameter Guide, primarily useful for piano sounds. Note also that the enable/disable controls the Amp EG modulation from CC#64; while a half-damper provides finer control over this, the modulation applies to normal on/off damper pedals as well.

Any service to Korg keyboards will be done through authorized service centers. Customers should not be ordering parts directly. The KRONOS is not designed to be user-servicable.

Thanks Dan -

Yes I do agree, having HP available on a "per sound" basis makes far more sense. I meant strange that it was not enabled as a global setting initially, followed by the per-sound basis. Not to worry, it ws only an observation not a criticism :)

Hmmm, your reply re the pads confuses me...if that is the case, then why do Korg allow the parts to be purchased via 3rd part sources, and also available from the Korg distributors as well?

At least in Oz the distrib cna supply them (not that they have stock though)

Sorry, I am not trying to be argumentative at all...I would have thought if that was the case there would be restrictions on parts availability.

That's more a rhetorical question anyway m8, no reply really needed :)

I have refurbished 4 Korg keyboards in the past (including keybeds) and not come across this issue....in any case this part of the discussion is OT so I will leave it there ...thx for replying to it anyway, I appreciate it.

Cheers

I honestly don't know. Service, parts, support, and warranties are handled by the individual Distributors, and while I expect that most policies will be uniform for all, some may not be. In general, I would expect that custom Korg parts would be available only to authorized service centers. Off-the-shelf parts would be available from other sources.

Is there no way to back this data up either through FTP or other means?
There is not, although we're aware that this might be desirable.
Ojustaboo wrote:Going to be a lot of unhappy people around the globe when their warranty ends (and sooner for those who live in countries where there's no authorised service centres)
Do many such countries exist? Any country with a Korg Distributor should have an authorized service center, and the list of Korg Distributors is pretty extensive; see the link in my signature.
Ojustaboo wrote:It almost seems like Korg has gone out of their way to make things that should be simple such as changing SSD or RAM, deliberately as hard as possible so that we either void our warranties or pay korg to do it for us.
Perhaps somewhere in the world service is regarded as a profit center, but in the USA for example, service is mostly done by independently-owned authorized centers, and Korg doesn't make a dime. I can certainly say that, in my more than two decades of developing products for Korg, ensuring profit for service centers has never been proposed as a design goal!

The KRONOS is not designed to be user serviceable. (Whether or not it should have been, with a commensurate increase in cost, is a separate question on which I won't comment.) It's not trivial to take it apart and put it back together, and in doing so it's possible for an inexperienced user to cause problems, such as crimped cables, mis-aligned parts, etc., which might affect reliability either immediately or down the road. For that reason alone I would strongly encourage users to resolve all service matters, including SSD and RAM installation, through authorized service centers.

Thank you for saying that; I appreciate it!

Edit - corrected "though authorized" to "through authorized"

Yes, thanks again for taking the time to reply Dan.

I echo Joes comments in saying none of my comments were in anyway personal. I would add that - along with probably a thousand+ others on the forum - having a company rep who regularly visits is much appreciated.

And I also STRONGLY endorse Dans comment re only doing this sort of thing if experienced. And then only if out of warranty.

In my case, I have refurb'd 4 Korgs and a few Rolands as well, plus I have been building and repairing PCs for around 22 years, plus I was an electronics tech for about 6 years in amongst that...and even I sometimes hesitate with some gear !!

The impossibility to install my original 1.0.6 DVD onto a large SSD, as well as the calibration data aspect of that question, are the reasons why I decided to go the cloning route. Not particularly easy, but safe, specially considering that I now have a ready to use 30 Gb SSD to go back to in case of a problem with the new SSD.

I bought a 256Gb SSD, which is way more than I will ever need with the Kronos. Such as size means there was no point for me keeping the original 30Gb drive.
