Hi
I have a question related to creating a two keyboard setup with midi.
I normally play guitar in my band but now i also need to do some keyboards.
However, the world of keyboards and midi is quite new to me so i was hoping that someone in this forum would help me out.
As i already have a lot of equipment to carry to practice and gigs i wanted to get a very lightweight keyboard and i ended up with getting the Korg Kross 61.
I love the portability and the sound of this keybord but the synth action keys are not very good for piano oriented songs.
The good news is that i have a fully weighted midi keyboard (m-audio)placed in our band room and a was hoping i could use this when doing piano songs.
Using a midi cabel this is working out quite well.
However, in some cases i would like to play both keyboards at the same time with different patches, and this is where it stops for me.
Whenever i change the patch on the slave keyboard (the Kross) the patch also changes on the master (m-audio) and vise versa.
So my guestion is, is it possible to have different patches on the master and slave keyboards at the same time, and how would i actually do this?
(just to clearify, the m-audio keyboard is only a midi controller and has no patches by itself)
Thanks for any help.

I think you will find that if you send midi note data from the M Audio on midi channel 2 and have the Korg receiving on channel 2 you will then be able to set the korg up in multi patches so that when you play it you will be playing the first sound via the Korg keys and then when you play the controller you will be playing the second sound assigned to channel 2.
I don't know either of the instruments so this is just a guess and if the Korg isn't multi timbrel it wont work anyway

You need different MIDI channel numbers.
Change your M Audio to channel 2 (if that is not possible, change the Korg to channel 1).
On the Korg, make a combi for all needed songs where you want to use the M Audio. You can per timbre (part of the combi, max. 16), to select if it can be played from the Korg (Channel 1), or M Audio (Channel 2).
So e.g. if you have a song with piano and strings, assign the piano timbre to channel 2 (M-Audio), and strings to channel 1 (Korg).
With using combis, you can also easily layer and split multiple programs.

Hi, thank you both for your help.
OK, so i guess using combi's is the solution here.
The fact that i now have to create a combi for each unique configuration is kind of a pain as i only plan to play piano on the m-audio.
Basically i just want to hardcode the kross to play piano on midi channel 2 (m-audio) without that being affected on any patch changes on the kross; but i can not find any setting for this in Global.
Anyways, if anyone else have any ideas, please post
Thanks

Actually it might be easier than you think:
Use an empty combi.
- Select the program that you want for your Krome (you can also use a complete combi if you like that better).
- However, if you selected a program, go to an empty combi and select Copy from Program.
- Than go to the piano sound on the Kross.
- Go to the combi
- Select again Copy to Program (and use IFxs only, I think the Kross supports that)
- Save the combi
Finished, takes less than 1 minute.
