Had it been Made in Germany, everything 909 would have made much more sense as "Comp nein", "Ride nein", "Crash nein"...
Makes you wonder about the level of attention taken to details before building the OS though.

I thought about that, but there are a bunch of other Eight and Nine samples.Poumtschak wrote:Had it been Made in Germany, everything 909 would have made much more sense as "Comp nein", "Ride nein", "Crash nein"...
No doubt.Poumtschak wrote:Makes you wonder about the level of attention taken to details before building the OS though.
For those interested, I made a list of the samples here.

If you'd like, here's the VSB with the single edit:rowf wrote:Hey! I have tried it but I dont know how to use the hex editor, someone help me with that and I try it again!
SYSTEM-edited.VSB
You'll want to remove the -edited portion from the filename.
Thanks if you try it!
I think you've just pointed me toward the name of a new music side-project:dschroeter wrote:Yep! But still neat to see this info for the sampler. Also, there are tons of misspellings in the samples: so far I've found "Paino" (two times), "Comp Nien" and my personal favorite, "RotalyOrgan."
Rotally awesome!

So, nobody took the plunge yet? Chicken! Chicken! Chicken!dschroeter wrote:If you'd like, here's the VSB with the single edit:

Korg sure did their homeworks, and have implemented checksums or system certificate preventing this kind of hack to be done so easily.

My E2 bricked when I tried to apply a badly copied firmware file. The unit didn't check the file/checksum, it just flashed it and I was stuck with a bright white display and there's no mention of a restoration option, which I'm sure exists. Some kind of key combo to boot it in recovery mode and flash a new firmware.
So, I would say you can flash any modified 1.03 firmware but you may brick your device with no way to recover it in a normal way. I'm not sure if there are any serial/jtag options on the board. But I can confirm that a firmware thats been badly copied or modified will be flashed by the E2. At least mine did.

So now your unit is non-working?dutchcow wrote:My E2 bricked when I tried to apply a badly copied firmware file. I would image they must have a key combination you hold down while turning it on to reset it.dutchcow wrote:My E2 bricked when I tried to apply a badly copied firmware file. I no longer have it, it was returned and since no fixes were announced from Korg I decided to get my money back. Will buy one again once they sort out the bugs, issues and shortcomings. Especially the clicks/pops.
I did try some boot-combinations but there are too many to figure it out/or I lack patience
Ideally there should be something on the website about recovering from a bad flash. Like holding down power + 3rd pad with a firmware in the root of an sd card.

someone who has both should disassemble the back lid and see if there's anything different hardware wise. Maybe it has some different chips though.
I repeat, I'd give a decent amount of money to KORG, or whoever manages to do that so I can boot the 2 firmwares just like JJOS. I've paid quite some cash for JJOS when I had my MPC1000 so I don't see a reason not to pay for this one.
I wanted the sampler when I bought my E2, but couldn't wait. Now I still want the sampler, but I hate that Korg PadKOntrol look. It's ugly and looks cheap. The E2 gray looks more "premium" to me.
