Copy internal SD Card

Post by Woodstock0815 »

You can make an image of the internal sd card only when removing it from the krome itself. You have to open the keyboard, take out the micro sd card and put it into a card reader for your computer.

The image can be made using software like this: Win32 Disk Imager

The File System Format of the internal SD Card cannot be read on windows. So you can only save the image or copy it to another sd card.

I, too had this issue on my Krome 88. It was driving me crazy and I was to the point of getting a different board, but this one meets my needs. I swapped out the micro SD Card last night and tested it for 45 mins. Seems to have fixed it.

It would make sense if the card was too slow it would cancel out the sound by not keeping up. The only time it stopped was when I was using the sustain was on those piano samples. I am hoping this cures the issue. I have a show tonight and will find out. I will report back in a few weeks after my next couple shows. I only use mine for live shows.

I wanna try the internal sd card swap but I'm afraid I might screw something up in the process.. how hard is it to get to the sd card? is there a guide out there for opening the keyboard?

On the 61 note Krome, the card is easy to get at. On the 88 there are a lot more screws to remove. I have both models and my 61 was new, so I copied that card and installed the new one in my 88. I used it Saturday night and did not have any issues. I am hoping this solves the problem. Next step would be a new Main Board, but I am afraid it would use the same subpar SD Card so it would not solve the issue. I used the HDD Raw Copy Tool on a WIN 7 PC. I used a 16GB PNY Card with a 40 read rate.

So I changed the internal sd card and the problem is now gone, tested it for like 2 hours, lets hope the issue doesn't come back. If anyone wants to know, the internal sd card that came with the Krome was a 4gb sanmax, I replaced it with a class 10, 16gb kingston with a 10mb read rate. My krome is the 73 keys version and I had to remove like 30+ screws to get to the sd card, it was pretty easy, but i ran into issues trying to make the image of the card on a mac, I ended up using my friends windows pc and win32 disk imager software. No problems after that. Will report back if any issues arise on a later date.

Hey rivanho, I don't know how much these versions of the krome differ in terms of assembly but I can tell you my experience with the 73 keys: I removed every visible screw except for the two under the midi inputs as they are not holding the keyboard together... after that just remove the back cover and thats all you need to see the sd card. You might just wanna be careful when placing the keyboard upside down as the joystick might get damaged, I use a small box to prevent that side from completely touching the surface I was working on.

gchance, It is not, do not buy that one!! you see that number 4 enclosed in a circle printed in the card? that means it's a class 4, you need a class 10, buy this one instead: http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Digital- ... on+microsd

rivanho, the guy in the video is basically saying what we now know, Korg messed up by using this cheap, bad quality sd cards and thats whats causing the dropped notes/piano cuts, shame on them for not helping us solve this problem.

I looked closer and realized it wasn't the one. I ordered that same model, it will be here on Thursday. I'll take my card out tomorrow and image here at work on Friday, ready for the weekend. :)

Thanks!

So, would't an image of the corrupt file still be corrupt? Does someone have a clean disk image file that can be shared??

I do not think the image on the card is corrupt. I think the SD card is a poor quality and can not be read fast enough. I am not sure where to share a 4 GB file, but I have a clean one that I could if anyone has any suggestions of a place to share a file that large.

You could put it onto Dropbox and share a direct link.
