KROME -SOUND PROBLEM

Here's something interesting. This is a picture of my Krome's SD card.



Notice that it's only 4GB, but also a Kingston (not no-name) AND Class 10.

Using Win32 Disk Imager, the image file is 3,887,104, which looks like it imaged the entire size of the card, not just the data. I'm still waiting for the 16GB SD to arrive.

All imaged to the new card. Out of curiosity, I saved an image of it as well, and sure enough: 15,196,160. I was hoping to see how much data was actually in use.

The disk image was a success. I used the Kingston 16 GB card forum member rhynotax suggested earlier in the thread. I'll just lay out the process for anyone else who needs to do this:

Remove all the little black screws (probably 30 or so) from underside of Krome. Nothing will spring out or become dislodged.
Lift off the bottom plastic cover.
Locate the microSD card which is held in place by a silver metallic locking mechanism.
Visualize the exact placement of the card. It actually fits into a custom little nook that mirrors it's shape.
Slide open the silver mechanism to remove the card. You will no longer need this card if you use the Image.imgc file supplied in an earlier post by forum member stale.
Use a microSD adaptor to insert new card into PC SD slot. Format the new card (FAT 32)

Use HDD Raw Copy Tool to decompress the Image.imgc file (supplied by forum member stale in an earlier post) to Image.img (or whatever you choose to name it) You are basically just 'unzipping' the compressed file. Name it whatever you want just as long as you choose to convert to an .img file.

Use Win32 Disk Imager to write the new Image.img to the new Kingston 16 MB microSD card.

Install new card - make sure it's firmly in the socket. Should fit into the Krome's nook perfectly
Power up the Krome and listen to your new beautiful sounds!

Where I can get the correct image for sd?... Someone talk about 3.7 giga size, other 1,8 giga size... Which is right? Sorry for my english...

After 3 shows with the new card, I have not had the sustain drop issue at all. It looks like it is fixed. It is so great not having to worry about the notes dropping anymore. It was pretty embarrassing happening in a live setting and I have been doing a lot of piano and singer only intros lately.

Hi Cooleyman, tomorrow a friend will install this image to the new MicroSD card i bought, a Sandisk (not Sanmax) 8 GB class 10
So the *.img file does not specialy have to carry the name KorgKromeInnerStorageImage.img ? The Krome will recognise whatever name as long it's an img file ?

The file does not need to have a specific name. It just needs to be a .img file extension. I used image.img and it works fine.

Yesterday a friend wrote the image on my new MicroSD card
Works like a charm now, finally my Krome does a proper job !
No more mutulated piano sounds while using the sustain pedal.
No more weird background noises either.

Good thing : de Krome is fixed and works properly
Bad thing : it's not thanks to the Korg service department
Korg remains silent about this problem.
No recalls, no proper explanation when you present them the problem.
Hehe. Big name, small effort to keep people tempted to buy.

Hi friends
I have very sadly inform to all,
Korg had replaced Mother board 2nd time and solved the problem temporary. But after 4 months returned the same problem, piano/drums note cutoff frequently, (My kbd is very rarely used) I think KORG could not solve this issue.

Hi Paul, in my case the cutoff problem was due to the internal Sanmax SD card (too slow). Changed the SD card for a quicker class 10 card and no more cutoff piano sounds. I hope it stays that way

As long as the piano cutoff sound existed I never used the piano sounds of the Krome, shame.. as they appear to be really good ! Now the problem is solved I could finally exploring the piano section in the krome. Not bad but the feeling was not right. So I attached my M-Audio 88Sx midi controller and a whole world opened up Not only having 88 keys but also the touch and feel of the weighted keys were a eye-opener. Aside that the attack was so much better (agressive) for the Rhodes sounds, you can really hear the keys knocking inside de Rhodes now, this was not possible with the very sluggish 61 keybed of the Krome.

It has been said before: Korg cutted costs in the wrong places like the keybed and the bad quality of the internal MicroSD card. Better ask 200 quit more for a decent Krome and have hunderds more satisfied (and faithfull) customers. As for me: after experiencing the memory problem, the 50cent keybed and the veeeeery sloooooowwwwwww way Korg reponds to his clients... it will be the very last Korg instrument I purchased new.

If this fix actually works, then I'm actually now thinking about buying another one for a spare. I'm in three bands these days, and because I sometimes have to worry about playing outside, etc., this keyboard really fits what and where I'm playing the majority of my gigs.

I'd rather bring in a Krome, than a Kronos or other high dollar keyboard to a place where I'd worry about my gear's safety or reliability on good power, etc.

Well, it worked for Stale, rynotax, Cooleyman and for me.
Apparently for the 88, the 76 and my 61 keys version.
Blame the Sanmax card. Sanmax seems to make slow cards

But if you buy another Krome it's possible there is a different SD card inside.
My friend also has a Krome 61 keys and did not experience this problems.
Could be a bad batch of Sanmax cards or Korg installed a different brand?
