KROME -SOUND PROBLEM

Hello everyone.

Just chiming in to say I have a Korg Krome 73 purchased brand new over a year ago now and I have the same note cutoffs issue. Drove me nuts trying to figure out if the root cause of my issue was my mixer, audio cables, sustain pedal, powered speaker, etc.

Just want to thank everyone here for sharing their knowledge, experience and fix to this issue. Sincerely appreciated.

Interesting that there is no support from Korg about this issue. They should read the entire post here, thank the owners for figuring out the root cause of the problem and send the owners a new higher quality pre loaded card. Now they will lose good customers like me. This most likely will be my last Korg purchase.

Hi Friends

After 2 times replace Mother Board of my Krome, but could not solve the problem. So Merchant had replace internal SD card of My Krome, But the SD card is same as built in from the factory.

One doubt- Internal SD card located on the Mother Board or not?

Thanks to the information in this thread I got my Krome88 working smooth as butter!
To recap: I purchased a 16GB SanDisk Ultra Plus Micro SD Card and downloaded stale's image file. Unzipped it and used Win32 Disk Imager to write the .img file to the new card. Plugged it in at it works great. It's almost weird to play now without the pops and note cutoffs! Lol.

* on the 88 I unscrewed all the visible screws except for the screws in the gray area (including the two "hidden" screws - look for the arrows in the black section toward the back of the keyboard). Then I gently lifted the back side of the keyboard case up and held it with one hand and removed the old card and put the new card in with the other hand.

The SD Card is located on the motherboard itself. It is in the middle of the keyboard toward the back.

** TIP ** remove all the screws, they will get in the way of getting the case to sit back down if you leave them in the screw holes.

Yes, you probably need to purchase your own card, and not any of the ones provided by the merchant. If it is the same type/make of card, no benefit will occur.

I found that while replacing the card in my unit, the factory card was also a 4g class 10. Using the 16g version class 10 replacement worked like a charm.

Well, I think I have also fixed this annoying fault with my 61 note Krome. I have replaced the supplied MicroSD card (SanMax 4Gb, also class 10) with a SanDisk Ultra 16Gb class 10 and everything appears to be back to normal! I have been playing the Krome Grand Piano for over half an hour now with no dropped notes. Obviously I will not really know until I gig with it this weekend, but confidence is high!!

I was also finding other sounds dropping notes just recently, most notably one of the organ sounds, but that is now ok too!

Fingers crossed that it is now fixed. Shame on Korg for not acknowledging this issue and offering a fix. It was really easy opening the 61's case. Yes there are about 30 screws, but it doesn't take long to open. Removing the MicroSD card is so, so simple.

The copying process took ages on my PC, which is no slouch. No idea why. I used the HDD Raw Copy Tool as suggested. I've moved to Windows 10 so maybe the software didn't like it much. Anyway, it appears to have worked!! I am a happy Korg owner once again! My thanks to everyone who posted the solution and the instructions.

I have had the same note cutoff and click problem as you had, but I am on my 3rd Krome board to try and get a good one that didn't do it and I am still unsuccessful after returning the 1st two. I have a roland damper pedal and a xs50 p80 damper pedal. no difference. Could all 3 Kromes so far have a bad board? Is there a fix? I don't want to have to return the 3rd one!

This will void his warranty ? As I read it, his Krome is still under warranty given it is his third board replacement.

Quiet impossible that all the motherboards were bad
Very well possible the internal SD has never been replaced.
My Krome was also under warranty and I changed the SD myself.
Warranty means nothing if the Krome does not work properly after 3 motherboards !!!
Skip the warranty, replace de internal SD an be a happy player

Sorry, I meant to say this is my 3rd Krome! not motherboard. The dealer took back both of the other 2.

I haven't even used the one on the back.I shy away from actually opening this up under warranty because after buying 3, I am done. Next keyboard for me, something different unless it's something I can actually do and from what I am reading, not sure if I want to take that chance of going inside and then still having the issue afterwards and not being to return it. My drop out and pops is horrible with pianos only.

korg needs to send out a sd card to all registered owners to replace the factory installed ones if this is all that is needed to correct problem. I thought about getting one but after all this I'm seeing here I think I will pass

Yes there is a microSD card slot on the motherboard, similar to the one in a mobile phone or tablet, ipad....

not sure if I want to take that chance of going inside and then still having the issue afterwards and not being to return it. My drop out and pops is horrible with pianos only.

Well I did (still warranty till 24 march 2016) and the drop out issues are completely gone ! Follow the instructions given by rhall (look 1 page back). It worked for me.

I am wondering when they started putting in this particular sd card as I had a Krome 61 3 tears ago and I did not have a problem. I sold it and bought a Yamaha MOX6, but I decided I wanted another Krome now too so I bought a new one. Have they always had this problem since the beginning of the Krome and I just happened to get lucky the 1st time? This one I have been writing about now is just plain unusable for Piano sounds.

Same here, the pianosounds were completely useless until i changed the SD card.

I did not have the issue when I first bought my Krome 88 in Early 2014. If it did, I did not notice it. I noticed it about 6 months after I bought it, I though my foot slipped of the pedal or that the pedal was defective. I tried different brand pedals and still had the issue, but it still wasn't bad enough to take it in. Still thought it was something I was doing. After tracking this thread for several months I knew there was a problem. Unfortunately, I waited too long. When a few people posted the cure. I thought, why not. I like this keyboard for my needs and really can't afford or need a Kronos. I had a card and I tested it out on mine. It has worked flawlessly ever since. It was a $5 dollar fix. It would have cost me $100.00 service to take it in. plus parts from Korg, probably a $300.00 + Motherboard with no gaurantee of fixing it. It was a no brainer for me and I went for it. I even changed it out in my Krome 61, since it was so easy and cheap.

Yes Korg should address this. It is bad enough they put these lousy key beds in the 61 and 73. Even the 88 key bed could be better, but the card was such a cheap fix. I understand reservations about doing this fix. I waited until a few people had success before I did it. But if warranty repairs are not fixing the issue, just do it yourself and save the money. I no longer worry about the problem and can enjoy playing it again.
