Korg Pa4x/nanoPAD2 issues and bad news!

ok...so it's officially confirmed that the Pa4x is still NOT a class compliant midi device and the USB Host port direct midi connection is NOT available for other brands. It only works with Korg controllers.
Most small/portable midi controllers don't have the traditional 5 pin midi connection, so I guess that's the end of it for now. This should clarify any confusion...

I wonder.... "Guitar IN" on the "NEW PA 1000" could that be a future update I was hinting at earlier in this thread ???... As I said there are some nice blank spaces in those menus that could be filled with this NEW feature and maybe more in the next PA4X update .... quote: (korg.com) "Guitar FXs let you add pedal studio effects to a guitar connected to the dedicated Guitar input on the back of the instrument. We selected some of the best guitar effects from the KORG collection, to add the sound of all-tube amplifiers, realistic distortion, chorus or delay pedals, and the highest quality studio reverbs." ....the mic input on the PA4X should cover the duties for guitar...... i wonder

The situation with the nanoPAD 2 is totally unrelated to the PA4x in this case. You still need more than just ONE program change message to be able to do something useful regardless. The reason you can get away with selecting something like "Intro 1" with just a simple PC message is that...there's only one INTRO 1 altogether but when you deal with sounds/SetLists/Styles and SongBook entries, you do need a string of midi commands.
This is a bad analogy but it's almost like this:
Take a postal address for example: 4060 E.Something Road, CA , 95000
If you want this residence to receive the mail, you'd have to be specific about the address which is a string of numbers and letters. What if the post office does not allow you to write the full address on one envelope? What if they require you to break it down and use at least 3 or more envelopes to write the full address or else they will NOT deliver! This is how KORG has set up the nanoPAD2 to work with the Pa4x for selecting sounds/Styles...etc. It's a weird OS issue with the nanoPAD2. It defeats the purpose of having this plug & play option because it only makes things more difficult.
..............
Then you have this in the MOST RECENT manual (Page 47):
You can use the USB HOST as a midi connection, to connect
OTHER musical instruments to be used as CONTROLLERS".
So I thought, it's no so bad. We can just get a different controller that does transmit these commands using ONE pad. Turns out you can NOT use "other" controllers....OTHER means Korg controllers ONLY!
A short paragraph about this USB Host connection deal could've cleared the confusion. There was no need to be so vague and mysterious about it. It's only going to generate more headache and tech support inquiries from users.
Unless this USB Host port becomes available for non-korg controllers, ...or an update improves the way the nanoPad2 works, I don't see a real benefit in using this controller with the Pa4x.

Hi Cobay:
You must wait till NEXT Os is available.
NEXT will let you connect nanopad.
Take a look at official Korg web.
Regards
Eduardo

I can connect it already.
There is no Program Change value to trigger the PADs. For ex: value 80 triggers INTRO1, value 64 STS1 etc.... but I tried all the values from 0 to 127 and no value triggers the pads.
I didn't saw that problem solved on OS3 list of new features. They added sync start/stop.
Is it a real problem or not? Many live performers use arrangers with remote triggers...

Hello
I bought the Nanopad2 for the Pa4x. and as I have a lot of loop in the form of PAD of my Pa4x, I wanted to assign more pads programmed on the Pa4x to the keys of the NanoPad2.
but strangely, you cannot assign the pads recorded on the Pa4x on the nanoPad2. we can just program the variations, fill in, intro, break.
Is there anyone on this forum who has managed to assign the pads programmed on the Pa4x to the keys of the Nanopad2? v and the procedures to follow?

If the pads require a string of PC/LSB/MSB, then you can't. I mean you can but Korg expects users to press 3 DIFFERENT buttons on the nanoPad2 to transmit that type of data! Vars, fills...etc...are ok because the only require a single PC message.
