For more complex scenes, I try and find the subtext and punch that up. Always fun, when a scene isn't coming across dry, but with the music added, the meaning is understood. More generally, I'm looking at mood and timing, as you said. Once, I come up with the movie's title theme, plus the protagonist's and antagonist's themes, I can weave those with more general romantic, chase (action), suspense, heroic, and sorrowful pieces.KingKronos wrote: What inspires your choice of music for a scene?
He's the reason I bought synths. I wasn't going to be a composer, but his themes seemed simple and relatable enough for me to think that I might be able to do that. I was already a soundtrack connoisseur, and had a good ear for picking out parts that I could use in my early film work. I can't play worth a damn, but somehow it made sense for me to try simple composition, and grow from there.I'm not a movie buff, but is John Carpenter an influence?
