Kronos "PCGrid" utility also runs on Mac and Linux

Post by KorganizR »

Hi all,

A few months ago I published my simple and small utility "PCGrid", which is a "Multi-PCG-file viewer" for the Kronos, running under Windows.
You can read about it in the the following thread:
http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... hp?t=79314

There were some forum members that would have liked a Mac OS X or Linux version of this utility.
Well, I ported PCGrid to Java, which means that if you've installed Java, you can run it on a Mac or under Linux as well as under Windows.
You need to have installed the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.6 or higher.
The zipfile can be found in:
http://www.karma-lab.com/forum/showthre ... post111079

The zipfile contains (1) documentation, (2) a Windows .exe and (3) a Java .jar file.
The .exe and .jar file are functionality-wise almost identical. See the documentation for small differences.
To launch the Java version, doubleclick on the .jar file. If that doesn't work, open a terminal window in that directory, and enter "java -jar PCGrid.jar".

PCGrid will not be developed further; it is what it is now.
Hopefully it is useful to you.

Kind regards,
KorganizR

Hi Daniel,

Glad that you find PCGrid of interest. :-)
No there weren't any updates since december 2013.
The second link in this original post is still the latest one.
I am a bit surprised that the utility still works, since it uses the old Java 6 (1,6) runtime environment, which I thought is not supported anymore.
But if it works, it works, and that's great.
I don't have plans to do further development on it though.

Furthermore, I have to emphasize that PCGrid is not an alternative for PCG Tools, as you can read in the first pages of the manual.
PCG Tools has got far more functionality, with respect to manipulating PCG files (Copy/Paste) and creating all kinds of reports.
PCGrid is a simpler tool, more "read-only" based but you can indeed generate some decent Excel (CSV) files with it. ;-)
Nice to hear that you got it to work on a current MacOS version.

Kind regards,

KorganizR,

It's too bad You won't develop this / any new tool and that there is no other MAC OS alternative, but thanks for what You did, it still works and I'm using it :) Thanks again.
