Heavy disapointed in the value of our New Kronos v2 model 20

Post by sP33DyEd »

Hi all,
I wanted to start this New post because I'm heavy disapointed that the value of our gear drops in 1.5 year from 3999 euro to les then 2500 euro.
So then you know what the marges are for al these local music stores.

The problem is that my back is broken and can't transport anymore my K88 V2 and when looking there are sellers Who are offering New K88 V2 for 2500 euro. I don't understand it anymore.

I'm feeling screwed...

So if there is anyone that want to swap a k61 V2 with my K88 V2 I'm listening.

Kind Regards Edwin

Welcome to capitalism. You don't have to buy things when they're brand new. :D

(BTW from what I see at least on Thomann, K88 2015 is still 4k€.)

Here in the US the Kronos holds its value pretty well. Keyboards in general are a bad investment if you buy and sell regularly. The high end keyboards in the US hold their value ok.

Here in Brazil you can sell your used Kronos 2 88 for US$3700,00. A brand new costs up to US$7000,00 in some stores and around US$4700 in the black market.

I think thats true. Even my 5 yr old 88 seems to command $2000 and even more with extras.

I paid $2995 or $200 per year of sheer enjoyment.

Here in the US , I think we benefit with distributor volume pricing and exchange rate. Plus dealers will give up margin to turn an expensive board.

This is typical for many keyboards and musical instruments, not just the Korg Kronos. I've been playing for 40 years and the only gear I sold the same price as bought were either very rare (for example, a Mellotron M400S) or initially bought used as well. Also, when you buy new, always try to deal the price as much as possible. I also believe the KK will probably hold its value quite well in the years to come compared to other synths.

This is also the reason I normally don't sell keyboards (anymore) ... although I don't have that many as some people here.

And yes, probably the Kronos doesn't reduce that much in value because there is no real competition for it after years after introduction.

I appreciate you have particular circumstances, so I feel for you on that.

I normally buy second hand, but when I buy new like the Kronos, the intention is that it is a keeper for a very long time. My last new board before the Kronos in 2014 was the (still might) Yamaha EX5 in 1999. So the depreciation hit is not a factor when considering the purchase.
