What you need to know about "DIRECT SET"

Post by AntonySharmman »

Some of you must understand how Direct SET architecture works , so please read the following tips :

- Direct SET is actually an "extra Banks" utility concerning only Styles & KBD SETs with a unique feature ... you can
have independed global settings of this SET and Song book entries when this file is included there.
- Direct SET concept was made concerning factory SOUND resources and all data that are used for styles & KBD SETs there
have as reference only Pa4X resources and never use as reference the SOUND/PAD/PCM files that exist in Direct SET folder.
So Direct SET uses exclusively SOUND & PAD factory sound library resources or any custom PCM resources that are already
loaded in your Pa4X Ram.

The complete form of a Direct.SET concerning included files is the following :
- GLOBAL
- KEYBOARDSET
- STYLE
- SONGBOOK

anything else will be ignored by Pa4X main setup !!!

- While in Direct SET (when Direct TAB is selected) , only the following can be saved :
1) Global settings , if for instance you rename a Bank or alter General Controls of Direct set , this will automatically
be saved in Direct SET without any further action !
2) Styles & KBD SET changes can be saved manually via "copy & paste" tab or write of screen upper scroll down menu
when destination is direct set , no further action is needed.
As you see Direct SET is always updated and no extra saving utility is required , just copy this SET in your PC/Mac for safety.

- You never MEDIA/SAVE ALL , pointing "Direct SET" since you will overwrite all resources references there and Global file.
- You can save partially there Styles & KBD SETs using MEDIA/SAVE function but you have to open ALL/ open SOUND or KEYBOARDSET
and save the specific Bank or position to DIRECT folder.
- If your Direct SET use exclusively factory SOUND resources , then it's an independent SET and can be used in any Pa4X setup.
- IF your Direct Set contains custom SOUND or custom PCM for SOUND/PAD then you have to load first only SOUND & PAD files into
Ram and then try to use "Direct" SET that points to them in your Pa4X factory or user SOUNDs.
This means that the use of a "Direct SET" in this case is useless since you need 2 SETs for all to work properly and it's
obviously better to load the entire Direct SET with all resources and save it as a new compact SET that contains all ...

In the case of using your older SET (before OS v.2) as Direct , only for old song book lost entries case then also read this :

Hope this helps
