Does the last RH3 key sit about 1/8" lower than the res

Post by McHale »

I don't know why I never noticed it before, but I noticed yesterday that the last key on my K88 sits about 1/8" lower than the rest. I've looked at other pics and think I've seen it elsewhere. Anyone else with this issue? It's driving me nuts!

Not here - The keys on my K88 are all more or less even.
If I look close enough perhaps it is 1/4 of a millimeter lower, but nothing I can feel or really see.
Here's a pic of mine fwiw:

Thanks for the pic. The top of the last key on mine is about where the bottom of the lip is on the next to the last key. I'm about ready to open the Kronos up and see how the mechanism works. Might be something simple.

Here's mine:

That looks like a defect to me. Definitely not something I would accept. The RH3 certainly isn't the most refined action out there, but it would be laughable if that is considered normal.

When I upgraded the ram on my Kronos I birthed the same problem on a different key in the middle of the keyboard.

I'm not sure what exactly caused it but I opened my Kronos back up, pressed a little evenly on the bed internally (just looking around mostly as there was nothing obvious), and then closed it back up and it was gone.

It might have been how the keys were resting when I initially opened and closed it so this time I made certain there was nothing under the keys.

I know this isn't exactly helpful since I don't have a good conclusion on cause or solution but "somehow" i made mine go away.

As McHale has 4gb in his it would suggest that the same has happened to him !!! ... Big Q .... does upgrading the memory void the warranty .... ?

I can guarentee its something very very simple. Many 88 key keyboards have at least one key like this. most commonly on the top around where yours is. it could simply be a even a loose screw. i know it seems like that couldnt make a difference, but when opening things up you notice that things like that really can change stuff. One time this guy was sure he had a broken key. even gave me the replacement key without me having to order it! i opened the board and the key popped back into place... no culprit to be found!

I am not familiar with 73/88 RH3 keybeds, but I never had the problem with unweighted keybeds, probably they work differently. And I have 4 Korgs (all 61, one 76 but non weighted).

That pic was taken before the RAM upgrade. I just cropped and posted it after Chrutil posted the pic of his.

In a different thread, I posted as soon as I got my K88 asking if others noticed that that very key had a different "looser" feel to it and almost all K88 owners stated it did. The way my Kronos sits in my studio, I never stand directly in front of that part of the keybed. I didn't notice it until I took it someplace and we started to go over the whole keyboard. When I went back to my original pics, I saw it was that way since the day I got it.

:(

I'll wait for other K88 owners as well as someone from Korg to answer before I do anything. I'm confident that I won't break anything by opening it up and taking a look, but I'd like to know what I'm looking for before I... I mean an authorized service center... opens it up.

+1

I'm sorry but that's beyond lame. Maybe to be expected on a $700 Casio PX-whatever, but on a 3K+ flagship keyboard ?!

Heck Yamaha can build a pretty high standard keybed all day long for the P155, CP33 and P95 AND have a better overall build quality for less then a $1000. It looks like the QC issues that started appearing with the SV1 are carrying over into this....sad.

It is laughable but I'd be crying if I just spent over 3K.

Just wondering: the Kronos is made (that is: assembled) in Japan, but where is the RH3 keybed made?

Let's hope that's an isolated incident (Doesn't sound like it though). That really IS piss poor QC. There's really no excuse for that and frankly frightening as a potential customer.

We know "corners were cut" to bring the 2005 Oasys (Enhanced) to the average Joe in 2011, but come on!

(it seems that)
RH3 is designed in italy by fatar
on korg specifications,
and assembled by fatar factories in turkey.
Fatar produces also the TP40 keybeds for clavia.

Mine is very similar to the picture - not quite as pronounced but almost the same. The end key at the low end has the same "shape".
OK, now I'll never not notice that...
