Spacer Cards

Did anyone else notice that the warning/instruction sheet covering the screen tells users to use the spacer cards that were under the keys when the 73 (and I presume the 88) was shipped?

Is anyone using these? I don't see how they would help unless they are re-taped to the keys each time they are used.

I saw that on my 88 when it arrived. I'm keeping the spacer cards around, but don't plan on transporting the unit out of my studio... but just in case...

Doesn't it seem a bit ridiculous that a board made to be gigged with relies on disposable cardboard inserts? I wonder what those inserts are actually preventing?

Is Korg seriously suggesting that these spacers are needed for transportation of the keyboard?

You can actually push the front plastic on the 88 with your thumb and it will touch the keys, so my guess is that the cardboard spacers help prevent that from happening.

Good catch on that one. I thought the card board was there to keep the keys on the end from moving up and down, but it makes more sense that it is to keep the from guard from pushing in against the keys.

Is that front piece plastic? It feels like the same metal as the top panel to me.

I've used them every time I put my 88 in its case. I do think they're to keep the front trim from bending and touching the keys. I may be wrong, but I think that front trim piece is actually metal.

I just take the three little spacers and store them in my case and they're always handy.

I just looked at it. I'm pretty sure it is metal. So are the front ends of my other gear, but they don't bend like the Kronos. As I'm looking at the front end I'm also noticing the decidedly random level of each of the keys.

Seriously, the construction of the Kronos is really annoying. I understand that what it can do is more important, but the poor construction is unlike any other quality Japanese product I have owned, including cars, pianos and electronic gear. They wrap the cookies at the local Japanese bakery with more precision than the Kronos is constructed.

Despite the great synth engines, I think I'm out with this thing. I'm finding myself an OASYS.

Now that you mention it, I believe it IS metal (very thin).

As long as no keys are played I guess it's not that much of a problem.

That's the bottom line. It plays great! If I have to put some spacers in to transport it, that's a small price to pay for all that it does and for as well as it feels. I wish it wasn't that way but it is... no biggie.

It doesn't seem like the front strip moves on the 73, even though it came with spacers. Does the 88 maybe have more flex because it's longer? Does anyone else with a 73 notice that the front strip can be pushed it?

Not sure why this would be a build issue compared to other keyboards, even Korg’s. I will say, the Kronos feels much more solidly built than my M3-73.

I use them each and every time I put it in the case. There is such a small gap between the metal front trim and they keys. I'm sure it's to help keep that gap consistant. Not that much of a hassle.
