PCG files in download section; Product ID and Sub Product ID

Post by michelkeijzers »

I noticed that all PCG files in the Triton LE download section have their 5th byte '50', which is the product ID for several Korg Triton models but not Triton Le, which is '63'. Is it possible these files are more or less compatible? I guess so but I do only have a Korg Triton Extreme.

Also, does any (developer or user) know how I can see if a PCG file is for Korg Triton LE, Triton TR, Triton Rack etc. Several models use the same product ID (byte 4: 0x50 for Triton ??? or 0x63 for Triton LE) and sub product id (byte 8: 0x00 or 0x01).

LE, TR, X50, and microX all have a slightly different implementation to the standard Triton format.

LE at the most basic end, is basically a triton with only the ROM (no expansion slots) and only one IFX. That means also no double-size effects.

The TR and X50 have the same limitation of one IFX and are identical except the X50 has a Multi Mode (like the Triton Rack) instead of sequencer. They have a slightly modified ROM - some of the samples are replaced with similar versions from the expansion samples I think, for example the MG Saw (moog sawtooth). There is also an EXpansion wave ROM of a further 32MB on board with various samples for example a piano taken from the OASYS, a righthand counterpart for one of the ROM string samples (possible the lefthand sample is altered in the ROM to match).

The microX is the same as above but has a different EXpansion wave ROM featuring more percussion (drum) samples. I guess it is aimed at more of a hiphop production market.

The other triton models were updated to be able import these files, except for the KARMA and Triton Rack, which never received an OS update to support the conversion.

Thanks for this info ... it seems that most PCGs must be somwhat compatible. I will take it into account when my app will get some librarian functions.
