About midnam patch for protools.

hi guys,

Does anyone have a midnam patch file for kronos? I've been searching around but could not find one. Or do I have to wait for the plugin editor? Help me please. Thank you

Maybe it's just me, but what is a 'midnam' patch?

I'm assuming the OP is looking for a patch name list file for ProTools. So as to select patches (at least the presets) by name from Protools.
If you could ever incorporate patch name list generation in the various formats of Cakewalk, Cubase, Logic etc into your app it'd be an instant buy for me.

I would have to analyze the file formats of Cakewalk, Cubase and Logic. I can look into it later (but first I want to add basic librarian functionality)... I will put it on the future/wish list.

My wish list is growing harder than the features I can implement which is good one hand but I cannot do anything I want, having the limited time I can spend to it.

It's an extention of patch lists for Protools. I need it so I can easily see patch names on my protools when i'm sequencing. I assume I can make one using CherryPicker but that would take a while. Just hoping that someone has made it and would be kind enough to share.

Thanks for sending it the Karma midnam file.

Request for others: please send more midnam (of any korg type) files so I can check for similarities.

I also have some questions:
The midnam file I received is an XML file ... are these midnam files for all sequencers (Logic, Cubase, Protools, ...) equal? Or have all sequencers their own format?

The midnam file resides in the library folder on the Mac. It allows apps like Protools and Digital Performer to use patch names instead of generic numbers to call up timbres in MIDI tracks.

I remember needing to use CherryPicker to make a file for my M3, but it's been a few year and I don't remember how to do it off the top of my head.

Also, in Digital Performer, the midnam file will ONLY work if your access your Kronos through a MIDI interface. It will not work if you access your Kronos through USB. Protools may have the same limitation.

Cakewalk/Sonar at least uses its own Instrument Definition File I think. Could still be xml based for all I know, but I don't think it's the exact same file as the other ones.

If you (or someone) can deliver a Kronos (or other model types as well) of such kind of files then I can check how to generate them.

I already have enough info for the Protools filesm but Cakewalk/Sonar and Logic and Cubase files would be welcomed.

You could try to use PCG Tools to generate patch names and copy the list into the file you want (you probably need to manually change the format but at least you don't have to type everything in yourself. First try it with a few program names, if it works, do the rest.

I will make a generator later but my wish list is getting larger than the speed I can implement items.

I sincerely doubt the editor will solve this. Would be nice if it did! Would be nice if OS X, Protools/DP/other apps, and MIDI devices shared info a little more seamlessly...

I fully agree ... however I think I can add support for generating (at least parts of) the list ... so manually copying might still be needed.

I will take this into account when I finished with basic librarian functionality (which can take some time).

Thanks again Michel. I'll try to do that idea. But one question though, what is "PCG Tool"? Is it the same thing as CherryPicker?
