A Couple of Thoughts on Build Issues

Post by danmusician »

I can't help but wonder if some of the negative reactions to build quality aren't fed by the fact that they get discussed here so frequently. Is it possible that maybe some of us are more sensitive to perceived imperfections because we're looking for them?

I know there have been real problems and I'm not trying to minimize anyone's pain.

Also, when I started talking about getting the Kronos, my wife reminded me that I never buy a product when it is first released. I always try to wait at least 3 months to a year for the manufacturer to get the kinks out.

Two times I've not followed that rule. One was buying the first 27" iMac I7 when it was released and the Kronos. Rolling the dice, I was lucky both times. Not sure I'll press my luck the 3rd time. :D

I go by practical implications of issues.

The people bringing up the issue regarding notes cutting off - DEFINITELY something I want investigated and dealt with.

People bringing up the "less-than-a-millimeter" difference in spacing and height...and when asked if it impacted their playing at all they say "no" - yet continue to bring it up over and over - those are the ones I could do without.

I do agree that some people are most definitely looking for the negative things. In some degree I like those people because they bring up things that "fanboys" wouldn't bring up. On the flip side, they get annoying quickly.

My favorite are the people that complain about every aspect of the kronos, claim other keyboards are better....and then top it all off with "Oh but I love the kronos". Really wonder if those same people do the same complaining over at RolandClan...but then again don't care either way.

Do people complain on RolandClan?

I believe through the collective power of the RolandClan the Fantom G was all but dropped from the Roland Line.

I also believe the frenzy was caused by a handful of people. Just about everyday some would post what they thought was a "BUG" and clai9m how un-exceptable this bug was. Funny how most of these bugs turn out to be naive operators. (not that the Fantom G series is overly simple to use)

Luckily Korg stays a little more in-touch with thier customer base, additionally, negative comments are better balanced with the good, here at Korg Forums.

+3 I assume with getting annoyed, you mean they try to use every forum thread to mention their problem and continuously write about it. The poll for problems show that there are not many users with problems.

Considering all the negative posts, I think my poll shows that the problems are not as widespread as feared.

I feel bad for Dregsor especially though .

Mines coming in a week.
If it's faulty I'll swap it for a new one. ( is that being negative )

I always thought and said that the best feedback to Korg concerning quality issues is either having serious(!) issues fixed, exchange the device, or give it back. I would act exactly like that and use one of those options, if I had serious issues with my Kronos.

Even more than ten percent issues in our poll are definitely too much for a well working quality control, though we don't know exactly what kind of issues were involved, or if someone just detected too late in a weird way that he wanted another device. My impression is that Korg is aware of the quality control challenge, and that the ongoing delivery delays are part of their reaction.

What makes the situation less relaxed is the obvious attempt of some to jump in and try to slander the Kronos into something generally unreliable or of untolerable bulit quality. This is nothing but spreading of clueless malevolent nonsense, looking at the device I use daily, and looking at the majority of users in the poll.
Kronos 73 - Moog Voyager RME - Moog LP TE - Behringer Model D - Prophet 6 - Roland Jupiter Xm - Rhodes Stage 73 Mk I - Elektron Analog Rytm MkII - Roland TR-6s - Cubase 12 Pro + Groove Agent 5

Hey, who you calling a fanboy?

I was call a Fanboy on the RolandClan/Fantom G forum, and I it won't take long for it to happen here.

First I don't spend upwards of $3000 with out having some knowledge of what I am buying.

Second and most importantly, I love all this sound making technology.

Third, if I had spent $3000 on something I was unhappy with it, I'd be a little embarrassed, because it's no bodies fault but mine, and I should keep my month shut.

Build quality is not my issue, but the idiots that claim their short comings are bugs, just bugs me.

These people really bug me, with all their faults and in-abilities, but I love them.

+5 in the way I wrote

And it's of course not about "Jedi vs dark side", but about "minimum common sense".

I'll have to make it a +6. I just received mine last week and the Kronos 61 has performed without any problems. So for me, it is just upside. I do feel bad for those that have problems with the weighted keybeds. :)

p.s. I hope my comments are not trolling; they just represent my actual experience with this board.
