Cleaning up timbres in a combi

Post by michelkeijzers »

I always have problems knowing which timbres are set in a combi and which are not; especially when not in the Play menu and Prog Select/Mixer tab.

Currently, if you have a initialized combi all timbres are set to ON, full volume etc. which make look used an unused timbres looking alike too much.
Also in other pages there is not a clue which timbres are ON/OFF so you have to remember all timbres when changing.

Please shoot at my idea:

So what I'm planning to do is making sure that all unused timbres (i.e. which are switched to OFF in the Prog Select/Mixer tab) will have parameter values
that are either OFF or have a value standing out to easily detect those timbres in any page possible.

The normal way to fill a combi is by copying programs which will override all settings for that timbre anyway.

Below is a table of the parameters I had in mind per page to change (or leave as default).
I decided to use the OFF value if possible or the lowest value possible and when 0 is already the default using 42 or 4 (if 42 is not possible).

In PCG Tools I want eventually to make a command to automatically change all these parameters for a combi, set list using combis and combi banks.
The only parameter you have to set yourself is Play / Prog Select/Mixer, On/Off to OFF (otherwise the app cannot know what should be On or Off).

Code: Select all

Page Tab Parameter Value Remarks
Play ProgSelect/Mixer Program I-A000 (default)
On/Off Off You have to do this manually
                                        Mute Mute
                                        Pan Center Default
                                        Volume 0 Stands out more

I am new to the recent family of Korg synths and am not sure what you mean, but if you could make it easy to create new Combis from parts of existing Combis with the original effects from the various Combis-- wow, sign me up for what you have got (or will have) :!:

I'm sorry but my app cannot do that. However, this is very easy to do on a Korg itself: just copy the IFXs while copying a programming and the Kronos will do it for you as long as there are slots empty.

However, I eventually want to make it possible to move timbres up/down and possibly also IFXs, so you can more easily add more programs to a combi.

Hope this helps.

I'm not sure about things like setting volume to zero, mute On, output bus to Off, etc - it will make a lot of work to add another timbre if you want. This is why the default values are fairly 'on' or 'open' I guess.

when I'm working on a combi, the first thing I do is check the track/timbre parameters page to see MIDI channels and which are assigned to 'Off', 'Int' etc. I remember that, or check back to that page occasionally for reference.

I suppose the best fix would be for Korg to implement some kind of marker at the top or colour coding to indicate the status of each track/timbre.

Yes I fully agree to you that Korg should make a color marker or any 'symbol' showing that the track is on or off. Or even better, you can give each timbre your own marker so you can make your own 'groups' with color coding.

But I cannot change that myself, that is the decision/work Korg only can do.

I understand everybody wants something different, but I have a better solution, tough it will take me a bit more time:
- make an options page with what settings you want to set when clearing a patch (you have to do it one time in a settings page)
- when clearing patches, the options page is used for cleaning: so everybody can decide which setting to be changed and where to (well maybe I make not every parameter possible but enough to see a difference).

Also, when copying a program all settings from the original program are copied so it will immediately overwrite the cleaned parameters. Only if you make a timbre from scratch it will not work.
