Sticking my neck out on a limb... but oh well

Post by apex »

It's for the good of the team.

All this time I've had my Kronos and been using it I never thought until just now to even try this: but that's what discovery is about.

I had no idea that you could turn the drum track feature AND karma on and off while sequencing and the Kronos actually record that part of the performance as well.

Then to make things worse (better), I went to my M3 and low and behold it can do the exact same thing.

that's awesome and very nice and useful.

So there I stuck my neck out and risked being called a noob, but I'm 100% positive that I was not the ONLY forum member that didn't know that.

Raise your hand so I don't feel so alone!!!!

LOL

Kronos is amazing.

hold on let me clarify....

I didn't mean that I didn't know you could record Karma AND the drum track feature, I mean that I didn't realize that you could turn them on and off while you were recording and the sequencer recognize it...

not sure how useful that is to everyone else, but it's gonna mean quite a bit to me.

I had about the same with Tone Adjust parameters. I knew it existed but never really used it until I had my M50 and it was already in the Extreme.

Don't sweat it, apex. It's a good thing to learn something new, even if you feel it should have been obvious. I generally feel that I should try to learn one new thing about my M3 every day (don't have a Kronos... yet... but reading up on it and considering getting one). For instance, the other day I learned on my M3 that you don't need to be in X-Y mode to activate the motion switch to modulate the X-Y CCs. Who knew? I didn't, till then.

Glad you learned something new, apex. That's one of the joys of playing with the Kronos - there's alwasy something new to learn and discover!

What's even better is you took the time to let others know about your discovery. Everyone wins. (:

apex, not only can you record it, .. but if you place the Drum Pattern page on hold, you can switch patterns as you record the drum track and capture it.
I've discovered many ways of using this along with turning the Karma drum module on and off, exchanging/replacing patterns with the drum track. The drums on Kronos are over the top if you dig in!

I keep finding out nifty stuff that can be done with the RPPR function.
I never paid that much attention to it with my Triton Ex as I was using the twin ARP's instead.

I notice that the RPPR function rarely gets a mention. I've wondered if that's because of the user unfriendly name it has (Realtime Pattern Play/Record)

Maybe if it was called something simpler like 'Pattern Play' it would get more attention. :?:

Maybe someone can help me with a query?

Can I set up the keyboard or my Kontrol49 to trigger both multisamples AND RPPR at the same time? Is it possible to assign both functions at the same time? (I couldn't find anything about this in the manuals)

I have had mine for 2.5 months. Every time I learn something new (which is almost every day), I have to go back and update the 15 sequences that I finished transferring from my Triton. Ay one point I almost stopped doing sequences because I have over 200 of them to do, but then realized that having to do something in the sequence was what was leading me down the path to learn something new. i suspect this will go on for some time as i have not got in to Karma, sound adjust or that much into the CX-3.

Sorry Kronos was off so I used the wrong terminolgy:
At the very top left of the drum pattern page there is an open Safety Pin, if you select it the pin closes and the page will remain open until you close it.
Now you can select a variety of patterns without the page closing on each selection.

It would be VERY useful if we could change drum patterns on the fly using the Karma scenes or some other technique other than RPRR or leaving the drum pattern setup open. When I had a Motif the ability to completely change drum arps at the touch of a button was one of the features I liked best. Even though Karma is great the straight up drum patterns are a very welcome addition over the Oasys. For that matter the additional drums in the Kronos beyond the Oasys is an amazing improvement by itself.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you? You can change drum sequences with each Karma scene. Or did you mean the actual Drum Pattern Page?
By the way you can select many different drum grooves on the fly as you are recording. See my post above.

Another trick I've picked up From QR was to set the Drum Pattern to the same channel as the Karma drums. Now you can turn either on or off or combine the two for a very interesting drum groove while recording..

I have also commented (since the M3) that korg seem to have missed an obvious one there - being able to choose a different drum track pattern for each Karma scene would make the two play much better together.
