Just a newbie!, First Korg, First real Keyboard, Tips please
Hi Korg Family, the next friday i might get my new kronos 61, i am from Costa Rica and we usually don't have this keyboards and due to the issue of the 73 and 88 Kronos i was more into the 61 (There is no support for Korg here)...
I have to say it, this is my first Korg/Synth/Workstation and "real" keyboard (i had a yamaha psr413, no joke) , i saved for almost 2 years and got from my work a loan for this beast... this is my dream to be honest, i always said "when i get the opportunity i will buy the keyboard of the moment" , this is a DREAM!!!... i am only 21 and i am proud to say i bought it and this means a lot since i am not rich AT ALL! (this was almost like a preach but i had to say it)
Now, since this is my first Kronos and this is a whole universe i have being watching some Karma Labs videos and all the reviews and demos possible, well, this will be a mess but i will enjoy it... i have download the kronos editor and even the drivers (how pathetic, i am like a kid in Christmas)...
I need that you guys let me know all your wisdom on this keyboard and teach me a lot of things, like Karma, and how to connect external instruments and assign them effects and stuff like that, also if i edit a sound or a combi and i need to save it how do i do that... this keyboard will be most for live gigs and regular recording with my band...
Thank you very much Korg Family, i have not even received my Kronos and i feel already that i am a part of you...

Welcome andalve, the first tip is: go through the manual! There's so much to learn, try to skim the whole thing quickly, and then decide which bits you need first. What's important to you? Programming your own voices with a particular engine, sampling, the sequencer, or just getting to know the controls backwards and setting up the setlist for live gigs? A small LED light might be useful for those small, dark clubs, where blck on black isn't always easily visible. Enjoy your machine, the Kronos is truly wonderful.
This forum continues to be a great resource. It is also one of the most friendly I have ever visited. As to your Kronos, congratulations!! You will have at your fingertips an instrument possessing incredible power. I agree with zzz in that you should skim through the manuals then focus on what your immediate needs are. That said, when you first plug in your Kronos, just play and allow yourself to get lost in this beautiful instrument!

Current gear: Kronos, Jupiter 80, Kurzweil PC3,Roland Fantom X8, Roland XV-88 (yep, its old, but the ACTION is heaven and those XV-3080 sounds are still wonderful for me), Radias-R, Motif ES (yeah it's older but I love the guitars
)

Thank you, well, unfortunately i was not able to buy the 73/88 because i bought it via Amazon and was shipped to Costa Rica, i don't have the advantage of being there when i buy this kind of items, still a 61 will be more than enough for meSina172 wrote:
We're all here for you, man.
Regarding the 88 and 73-Note KRONOS's, pay attention to the Serial Numbers. If you can play one and see the box BEFORE you buy it, you can see the serial number on the box. I just read in another thread that the KRONOS 73's and 88's with a serial number of 3600 or higher do NOT have the old keybed and are trouble free. So if the keybed is your only concern in getting a 73 or 88, then this should help you get the keyboard you want instead of fearing problems and settling for a 61.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I would highly recommend looking at the Korg Kronos Videos on Youtube.
Also anything by Grobinez as in the following thread:

You will probably find a lot of useful info in the forum threads by searching the forum.

First, congratulations with your Kronos! I also have the 61, and I love it (more than any of my other Korgs I have).andalve wrote:1jordyzzz wrote: Yes you can! simply plug that LED into 1 of the 2 usb ports on kronos.. It'll light up... This has been discussed on another topic.. and it works!

PCG Tools is not an official app but can be used for managing so called PCG files which contains the programs, combis and set list slots. You can do some things much easier than on the Kronos itself and somethings that cannot be done by the Kronos. However, it is not a substitute of the official Korg editor. You can use them both.
Please PM me with your email and I will send you the latest version (it is free). If you read the manual or first page of the link in my signature (below) you can find much more info.

We are all very happy for you, here. A 61 is better by a long stretch than none at all. Just like others here have said, skim through the manuals but make sure you just sit down and play with it first. Don't at all be afraid. It won't break and it won't hurt you! Scroll through the sounds and for every sound, try and press the Karma and drum tracks buttons. Play with the joy-sticks, press the switches above the lower joy-stick. Play with the ribbon controller. You won't be disappointed. Most of all, have fun! Well, you're going to whether you like it or not! Everybody here does!
Best wishes

Congratulations! I am in the same boat you are. The Kronos is my first real synth/workstation and I also have so much to learn. I've had it for a few months now and feel like I'm still just scratching the surface.
I spend a fair amount of time looking things up in the PDF manuals and if I can't figure it out from there, I ask here. These guys have been so helpful.
Sometimes, though, I just dig in and start experimenting. What happens when I do this? And now if I press this button and slide this fader and touch the screen here and turn this knob..?
I learn a lot simply by just spending time with my Kronos.
And it is a ton of fun.
Enjoy the ride!
