The gang's all here (SV1 RV + KP3)

Post by RobinOtto1990 »

I guess the person who was most curious 'bout how it would look and sound is me. But still, I'd like to share my new setup, now that both my SV1 and KP3 have arrived (the KP3 is for the Roland FP-2 on top of course  )

I am really, really happy about the SV-1. I'll admit; you do need a very clear and pure amplifier to run the sound through, since anything with it's own character will just affect and diminish the sound of the SV1 IMO. But other than that, it is amazing. If someone is still planning on purchasing an SV1, I recommend to make full use of the computer editor. I started my own soundpack with a set of 18 collected organs (that's all the organs from the three soundpacks, except for the "FAVORITES" splits/layers), 6 collected piano's, and 12 collected E.piano's. Yep, this means I threw out all the clavinets and others; simply because I don't need these sounds.
I put on a headphone and tweak the sounds in the editor as close to (my perception of) perfection as I can. The on-board controls can be a bit hectic in the beginning, but with saving your own presets you don't have to worry THAT much. It's just basically setting up a (great) base sound for yourself, and you can tweak it live up to some extent. All the different Editor options are awesome, because you can really narrow your sound down to exactly that tonal character that you need, although this takes some effort.

ALSO, no problems with the keybed; all keys and notes are safe and sound. After reading all the stuff on here, I'll make sure I'll store it the right way. That is, horizontal, in my room, on a standard, playable at any second. Because no way I'm gonna put this baby away.

How many sounds are programmed into that tamborine?
“So, how many sounds does my SV1 make? Both of them.”

Not that many; I prefer to use it as a MIDI controller.

With my SV-1, I took out the transistor organs. They were too thin and nasally. I replaced them with organs. Now my organ section has 3 clean organs and 3 dirty ones. It's interesting. With the stereo chorus effect on the electric pianos, when you play solo it sounds fine. Blend that sound in with a live band and you'd think the dissonance would give you a stroke. I've since cut back on those effects. The SV-1 is still a great workhorse, though, but like the OP said, you can' just throw any amp with it. A guitar amp playing its organ sounds are a heavenly joy to hear. With the pianos, not so much. Line in is preferred in that case.
