King Korg?

I just watched the promo video again and I have to wonder, just what can this keyboard do that my Kronos can't? Besides the onboard tube I have a hard time seeing much there. Sorry Korg. I also do get the price difference.

The main thing which gives a synth its character are the filters, and what King KORG has which I want are properly modeled Moog, Prophet and Oberheim filters. Plus a synth which is backed by a warranty that gets it repaired, unlike a vintage OB-8 or something. I really like the Kronos, a bunch, best synth I've ever owned overall. But the filter in the KK is a proper Moog model, while the one in the Kronos is not quite there.

While I like the new Roland Jupiters and Integra, I'm not sure their filters offer as stark a difference to the Kronos as the KK. The rest of the JP's synth engine is stellar though.

But I'm torn between the King KORG and the Prophet 12. While the P12 has a fairly distinct DSI/Curtis chip sound like Dave Smith's other analog synths, there is something quite different about the Prophet 12. Maybe it's the digital oscillators - FOUR of them, and a SubOSC! Maybe it's the electrical aspects of the circuit boards, or silver wires inside, or pixie dust. Whatever the case is, I'm thinking I should get one as soon as possible and build my musical identity around it.

its been an expensive month
this lot will be partnering with my Kronos 61 and Moog Voyager EB 2012 model
with all the updates

imagine Prophet 12 sequenced by Kronos !!!!

Hmmm. The KK sounds Like it could be the next big thing somewhat then. It will be some time before my budget allows for it though. My wife got laid off and in ear monitors are higher on the priority list.

Probably there will be because it is not so similar with other models having their own thread.

The description of the patch storage in the manual is 200 preset, and 100 user. Please tell me you can overwrite the 200 factory presets as well anyone that knows?

I assume that the factory presets can be overwritten based on this from the paramter guide. Since they are stating that programs 1-200 will be restored it would imply that they can be modified.

Load Preload..................[1Program, All Program, Global, All Data]
This returns the KingKORG’s programs and global data settings to their
factory-set state (OM: p.20 “3. Restoring the factory settings”).
All Program:
Programs 1–200 will be returned to their factory settings.
Programs that did not contain preset data when shipped from the factory
(programs 201–300) will not be affected. The currently-saved data will
remain.

Im pretty sure you can. Ive read too many user manuals this past month. Though I am almost certain that the presets can be over written, and im reading again now to see if i can confirm.

I find the KK appealing because its ability to sound like a cheesy YM2612 board one moment and yet something entirely more robust the other. I understand its not the Korg Kronos, but I like what I hear, and am ready to go to the store to try one out. (haven't had the time off)

We will see this spring, tons of cool gear announced on top of gear that I already wanted.

Yes. They'd like people to buy both boards.
