Would it be a good idea for new users not able to use HTTP links to avoid spammers? E.g. for the first 10 posts.

Yes it would be a great idea but I'm pretty sure that the old version of phpbb that we're using doesn't support that. We're hoping to upgrade the boards soon and then that's definitely something we'll be looking in to.
