Factory V2 change question

Post by skuppy »

Hi Guys,

Happy with the 210 system update and firmware upg, all went fine.
But with the Factory V2 change, do we have to load factory v2 everytime manually ?
Is that the way korg has designed this change ?
I would have thought we would overwriting the original preload files ?

I missed the boat on this one.
thanks

From the V2 pcg, you can just load in program banks I-A and U-C, which are the only banks with updated organ sounds. They are saved when you turn off the machine. There are no new samples involved that would require additional preloading every time.

In my case I never modify a factory sound, but save my edited versions in the user banks. Just the way I've done it since the Triton.

So I unchecked the V1 preload and checked the newer version V2 in the Global preload tab. All user banks intact.

BTW. I did an All Save first just in case. :)

The global KSC preload only has to do with samples, nothing with the PCG and thus nothing with the updated organ sounds.

As a follow-up question:
Any clue why the updated factory sounds come in a package with a PRELOAD_V2.KSC file?
If the only changes are the CX3 factory sounds, then I wouldn't expect a KSC-file.
Based on the size of the file (253kB) it seems like a dummy file.

Yuma, it's not a dummy file, but it only contains the links to the multisamples in the various EXs's. You can check that if you open the file on a pc with a notepad editor.

Korg probably included it for completeness. As no multisamples changed, the actual changes are only in the V2.PCG, and then in two program banks only.

UPDATE: Also, as with other PCG files available for Disk Load, there is an option to load the .KSC and .KGE with the same names as well. That's also why they are included.

Maybe (hopefully) they fixed some of the stereo issues with SGX1?

At least I could not trace anything in the documentation on this. The only mention is on updated CX3 programs.

What exactly is the issue you mention? I guess that relates to program settings in the PCG? Or are you referring to issues with the underlying samples?

Well for instance SGX1 doesn't really sum to mono properly. But I would expect them to make some kind of announcement if this was fixed. But specifically I meant that while SGX1 has a natural left/right stereo spread across the keyboard (higher notes more to the right, if set to player's perspective), but some notes have an oddly incongruous stereo image where a high note is suddenly more to the left of the spectrum or a low note on the right side.
EDIT: which in my mind could probably because fixed by flipping the left and right samples on those keys.

This is explained in the documentation, btw:

Perhaps what you mean is that you don't like the way some of the samples sound when summed to mono?

Which notes and velocities do you mean, on which Programs (and sample sets)? I'll check them out.
