OK, but I hope Dan can clarify it.
As others have noted, Korg owns the copyrights on both the user manual and the service manual. I am not a lawyer, so I can't answer definitively on how that applies to the questions at hand. I have my opinions, but they're really just guesses so I won't clutter the forum with them...

I respect Akos's questions, btw. Personally, it tends to bug me when I see people selling photocopied manuals, or pdfs, as opposed to giving them away; I just can't answer re technical legality (which probably varies depending on local jurisdiction, for that matter). It's one of the cases in which, in my personal opinion, "information wants to be free."

Thanks for your answers, I hope this will suffice for Akos.

(yes btw, I also don't mind Akos's questions - he's just so stubborn thats all  )

As for selling the manuals, maybe you should offer them for download for free from your personal homepage, and all the ones for Kronos too while you're at it ;)

Hedegaard,

Dan offering free distribution (copy) of HIS copies violates the control (right) of the author - namely KORG.

KORG can decide to distribute (or not), Dan (non-author) cannot.

Possession of material does not equal ALL rights over material... owning a picture of the cow doesn't give you the right to turn it into steak.

I know that, it was tongue-in-cheek humour......

(note thats humour with a "u", not the Americanized "humor")

As far as I know, all of the manuals I've written for Korg are already available to download, for free, from Korg...aside from the KRONOS manuals, which should be available by the time the instrument is released.

I don't think so.

I think his signature will go:

"As of last friday, Korg hasn't yen officially declared that not any kid is entitled to his own free copy of the Oasys Service Manual".

Thank you all for the useful answers (to whom it matters ). Just as I expected - usual copyright applies. So neither selling nor free distribution is legal.

But could somebody give a copy to his friend, person-to-person and for free of course? Just like "personal use" when exchanging songs for example. It doesn't sound illegal.

Maybe Korg don't want to make the service manual publicly available for two reasons. 1.: They don't want to reveal too much technical information because of competitive manufacturers. 2.: They want to get the instruments repaired by authorized and trained Korg specialists only - to help the users and keep the quality level high.

Yes. If I'm right (?) not for everyone, only for registered users.

Headguard -

Re: Tongues 'n' Cheeks

Right you are. We Americans have no sense of humour. We had senses of humour, but for every 100 of us we have a dollar of humor. The government has taxed away our dollars of senses until we had barely a penny for our thoughts. Now we are thoughtless, humourless and ridiculed.

All we have left is our individual right to spell stuff different than the English.

There are people on this forum who have an electronic copy (.pdf) of the OASYS Service manual.

PM me if you want more information.

I definitely think it is wrong to be selling these as a 3rd party.

I tested this for you.
You can download all the manuals without registering/logging in.

However, to download the extra sounds e.t.c., you must be a registered user.

I was speaking about the service manuals, not the parameter/operations guides......

Good old Korg. They've always got their customers interests at heart.
