Yep, that did it. Too much EQ = DISTORTION!

The only two things that keep coming to mind and as I mentioned prior, I don't know your complete setup and by no means claim to know it all, but:

1- Gain Staging
2- You should be using Balanced cables. I don't know how long of a run you have or if it matters in your situation.. just a few thoughts.
Good luck and hope you locate the culprit.

Hi,
I used my Kronos today for a jam session, we had StagePAS, it seemed to work fine. I think it must be with my Mackie DFX-6 mixer at my setup. I will try, hoping it works out.

I thought you said the distortion was also in the headphones that are plugged into the kronos?

No, that was never said. He said "headphones jacks" but that doesn't mean directly into the Kronos. It could have been the mixer's jack. We'll probably never know... well, maybe we might know someday...

He states"

"Hi,

I use the Aux L-R jacks, have tested with the headphone jacks too.
I'm currently managing with low levels "

Still confusing, as there are no "Aux L-R jacks" on the Kronos, but this was in response to a question about using the Kronos headphone jacks. Some good basic troubleshooting skills are always good to learn. I'm done with this thread.

Hi,
My setup:

Korg Kronos 61
Yamaha Motif XF7
Mackie DFX 6 Mixer
Audio Technica RP F600 Headphones (most of the times)

Also have but on on use for live show preparations dont use this as often but the distortion problem has seem to come in this case too:

BOSE 201 Seris IV Direct Reflectins speakers ( Motif XF works fine on the same)
Edirol FA-66 Soundcard

The Aux L/R I was talking about are the Balanced L/Mono and R jacks on the rear and the headphone jacks would be the ones in the front of the Kronos, not Mixer.

- Please clarify, are you also hearing distortion when monitoring from the front Kronos headphone jack?

- If you take Kronos out of the mixer and just monitor by itself (Kronos Headphones) is it still there?

- Are you using any type of Power Conditioner, like a Furman? (You should be)

- Exclude the mixer and plug you powered monitors directly to Kronos L/Mono/R outs, is it still there?

- Try to isolate Kronos from the rest of your gear and then move forward from there to see when the distortion is introduced..

- Yes distortion at levels when Main Volume knob is anything above 50% with headphones straight out of headphone jack

- Yes

- No, we get stable voltage in my city (Mumbai), although there is one centralised stabilizer for the house

- Little difference when rest of gear is isolated and directly the Kronos is plugged in.

I'm replacing the cables for now. Hoping that sorts it out.

Also I'm using the Yamaha FC-5 pedal from the Damper port (with polarity reversed), could that be the culprit? i don't think so, but just a verification.

Check the Setlist equalizer!

At least now you know it is internal to Kronos.
Other than what Ron is saying, I'm at a stand still..

Incidentally, the Power conditioner also gives you a cleaner signal from outside interference.

Actually that did make somewhat significant difference, somehow the Mid EQs were high when switched on. I reinstalled OS 1.5 , the problem is better.

@Lou - I have ordered a stabilizer of a good kind, it should arrive in another 2 weeks, hoping that eliminates problems altogether. Thanks guys :)

I have same issue, and it started just recently.

Setlist equalizer is set to bypass.

Distortion on all outputs, when main level knob is 50% and higher. Direct headphones, direct headphones in L/mono, stereo, 1,2,3,4 outputs.

Distorted sound on DAW soundcard input (even if level is not cliping, its not even close 0db)...

So have you found any solution for this?

Same issue here with certain programs and combi's (not all of them). Volume is not even at 50% and I get distortion and a crackling sound through my speakers. Also get it when I use my headphones directly in the Kronos.

Setlist EQ doesn't seem the issue, since I bypassed that.

I didn't have this issue before OS update 1.5.
