RH3 Keybed Information

1. Contacted and shipped my Kronos to Korg distributor EM Nordic in Norway.
2. Kronos 88.
3. Keybed was replaced. They had some difficulties finding compatible USB-DVD drives for installing the new OS (1.5.2) The ones suggested on this forum did not work. A non-brand, swedish drive worked eventually, though.
4. The keybed is now functioning properly. The plate in front of the keys were a little bit tight when I got it back, a few keys stuck and had some mechanical noises. Easily solved loosening the screws holding the plate in place.
4. #2607.

Heey, this area is off limits!

7 months.
2 defective keybeds [return was a dud too]
Now it's sitting in repair serviceman's shop waiting ANOTHER 4-6 more weeks.
Korg gets whatever is 5 steps below an F on this one.
Major suckage. I'm going to demand a refund and look at a different company. Maybe they'll make a playable instrument...
Sorry to hear it man, I mean it.
If it helps, though I´m sure it wont, you´re not the only one.
Regards.

Same here. Played 2-3 weeks with my Kronos until noticed the cutoffs, sent to repair 2 weeks ago, still waiting, no news.
I was lucky, the local retailer lent me a brand new replacement until the first one is coming from repair. Only to find out that the second Kronos is also failing.
2 defective keybeds. Different serial numbers, different batches, no ETA for a working replacement and money that could be in my pocket is elsewhere ... So far, no apologies from Korg as if the keybed replacement was all that is needed and we should even be grateful when we get our Kronos back.
very sad.

I have bad news to report. After taking my Kronos 88, s/n 18xx and after being stored (collecting dust) for about 1 month with my nearest support center: ENC Audio Solutions, today I have the announcement that the keybed is backordered and I'll have to wait additional 4-6 weeks to get my replacement ready.
So, while I recognize Korg has provided us with a solution (as far as I have read), it's a big shame that they just can't sustain a proper service within a reasonable time-frame. This is happening at least with Korg USA.
For my case, this means losing 1 month without my almost new Kronos 88 and I'll need to wait an additional month (at least) to have it fixed. This without considering actual costs to transport my Kronos to my service center.
In conclusion, I think it isn't yet advisable to buy a new Kronos 73/88 without first carefully test for a good keybed: I don't think such thing exists yet (I've read serial # 3xxx and still with "old" keybed), but what actually exists are people who play in a way that they just don't produce the cutoff problem and therefore this is not relevant to them.

RH3 fix
Hiya,
Here's a video of the Kronos with the keybed fix. This is going to be applied to every new Kronos, so there's no need to wait for a version 2 of the product.
the fix doesn't cost anything as long as your kronos is still within warranty! contact your dealer

keybed delay
I took my 3rd Kronos 88 to the service center 6 weeks ago for the keybed replacement. 2 weeks ago I was told it would be 3 weeks before the keybed would be available because so many requests have been received. I called today with the hopes it might come sooner and the service center called Korg and was told it would be at least 3 to 4 more weeks before it would be available. That's longer than the first estimate. The service center is calling GC with this information to see if I can get my money back.
DON'T BUY AN 88 KEY UNLESS YOU MAKE SURE IT HAS THE NEW KEYBED OR I WOULD WAIT UNTIL YOU CAN CONFIRM THE KEYBED IS AVAILABLE.
Unless you enjoy spending $3,800.00 plus tax and having nothing to look at except the receipt.

Sorry to hear you have to wait longer ... double posting will not help you get more reactions btw. Lots of people don't have problems so I don't really understand your advice to not buying one ... maybe a better advice to try it out in the shop before you buy?

korg failure
I feel it is my duty to alert potential buyers and others who have already laid the cash out that the keybed is on backorder for much longer than originally announced. Oh, wait a minute, Korg has never made an announcement concerning the problem except for a couple of posts on this forum from its employees.
If you have one that works I can see where you might be miffed about me talking about the problems we are have getting the thing fixed! I'm sorry if reading a post is upsetting to anyone but that pails in comparison to the frustration the people who are having trouble getting one that works or repaired.
My thought is that people should know what they are getting into before they buy one. Korg is late on so many counts concerning this problem. If you can try one out before you buy, by all means that is the thing to do, BUT, some have reported that the problem didn't appear until months later. My error was taking Korg's word concerning the screwed up keybed. I bought two in Oklahoma and the last one I got was from Texas, I guess there is 1% of them in that state that is having problems too.
btw, I'm just a consumer who has a legitimate complaint about they way this has been mis-handled. I have praised the Kronos several times as far as its sound quality, number of synth engines, etc. the display isn't even an issue for me or the editor.
To be called out as "double posting" is somewhat amusing. The news of the post is that korg originally said 3 weeks and now 2 weeks later it is 3 or 4 weeks before the keybed is available (I just double posted!) is what needs to be known. I'm not looking for help - just wanted to let everyone know the new timeline (at least for now).

Re: korg failure
Sorry it was not meant to be offensive. I only said a better advise would be to say try it out in the store. If it really happens months after, you still can get a fix for it (falls under guarantee).Ten2One wrote:...Ten2One
And I meant your double posting above. It is within one minute and not meant that seriously ... probably just a refresh of the posting submit.

I just ordered my Kronos 88 from Sweetwater and my sales rep said the same thing. Korg is now shipping the new keybeds and their next shipment, in the first week of April, will come with the fix installed. I trust my sales rep, but it's nice to get it confirmed from a second source. Thanks, Guybrush.guybrush wrote:i work at instruments2go.co.uk and we were one of the first shops in the UK to get the fix done and are guaranteeing that every kronos from APPROX april will have the fix installed.
but it doesnt hurt to ask when u call up to order one.
still waiting
I bought my kronos 73 in october 2011. i am still waiting for the fix... over 6 months of waiting.. i am extremely disapointed... i cannot use it for six months now.. it just sits there.. i am forced to use my kawai k1..
My dealer tells me he has to wait for getting the replacement keybed.. my friend had a 88 keys kronos, and his kronos was repaired 3 weeks ago..
i am tired of waiting

I just saw my double post so I must apologize to you publicly. I didn't realize I/something had done that. I'm sorry and I realize now I shouldn't have mentioned your statement as you were correct about the double post. It was unintentional but nonetheless, I apologize to you good sir.
Sincerely,
