Machine Head was my very first Album I owned. I could never say enough good things about the organ from that album alone... RIP

Machine Head was a classic album, continuing the band's ground-breaking work on "In Rock" a few years earlier. Jon's passing has truly saddened me.

About 10 years ago he gave a "solo" concert here in Melbourne, playing nothing but blues with some local musicians. (No hits, very few vocals, just blues standards with lots of keyboard solos.) It was an unusual concert, in a format that he rarely repeated, anywhere in the world. A great memory of a great musician.

Sad. I loved his work, especially on Machine Head.

Legend.. I worked with Don Airey a few times who replaced him on the Purple tour.. He was a hard worker by all accounts...

He's left a wonderful legacy

I'll never forget when I first heard that unforgettable organ part that opens Hush.

Or the time my friend JJ's buddy was giving us a ride down Lake Shore Drive in his Charger Hemi and Highway Star came on the radio. He had it up to 130 by the time we reached our exit (I remember that vividly because the Dodge speedo in that model went to 150!)

In high school I bought my pal Gary the Burn album for his birthday, and I still have my big sister's "missing" Who Do We Think We Are album in a box of vinyl in my studio closet (sorry Sis!).

Thanks Mr. Lord, for your contributions to the soundtrack of my youth. I will always remember you.

Travel safe...

Age carries time and my feeling of sadness in losing this great talent is for his wife and his two daughters and everyone else in his life that loved him. His music will live on and I hope his business practices and the attorneys left his family secure. He was a great musician and influenced generations to come making music with others that touched on the deepest realms of reality to explore.

"In a room within a room
In a hole within a hole
You've got to learn to share
your secrets
Or you'll lose your soul...."

“The story's been told, now I'm gettin' old.”

“I'm dreaming, let me go”

Sail well....cast off.
