Browse engines with presets grouped?

Post by Toxi »

Hi All,

First post!.

I know it's possible to browse strings or bass or brass presets by clicking on the tabs, but is it possible to browse for example, just polysix presets or just MS20 presets?

Thanks in advance. :)

That was one of my first questions when I had a new Kronos. I was surprised to learn that it is not possible to browse programs by engines.
Kronos 73 - Moog Voyager RME - Moog LP TE - Behringer Model D - Prophet 6 - Roland Jupiter Xm - Rhodes Stage 73 Mk I - Elektron Analog Rytm MkII - Roland TR-6s - Cubase 12 Pro + Groove Agent 5

Thanks for the replies.

I too hope that this will one day be possible. I doubt it'll happen though.

Have great Holidays.

It's one of my plans for PCG Tools, although of course it would be even more useful if it is inside the Kronos OS.

this is exactly the reason why I assumed that such a feature was never implemented inside the Kronos OS.

That still shouldn't be a problem. All I would want is to let the OS show me all programs that use for example the Polysix engine.
For me it wouldn't matter if the program also used MS20 as second engine.

Incorrect. Look at Voice Name List document "Kronos_VNL_EFGSJ2.pdf"
It shows all the patches and what engines they use. Any two EXis can be paired in a program. HD-1 programs can only use 2 HD-1 osc.

I miss this feature too, but I found out that some of the banks contain larger groups of MOD7, AL-1, Str-1 etc patches. It's not the same, but helped me, to get an overview about what different sounds can been made with the one or the other synth.

I expected to have a screen showing the 9 synth engines and being able to for example pick the poly 6 or ms20 one, rather like the ipad apps and simply adjust and play, then being able to save to a patch number and add effects etc later if I so wished.

I have found searching for just the thing I need to be a problem in so many ways. I have created an app that stores all the info about my Kronos that I can run on my computer or ipad that lets me search by any of the criteria, but that is not ideal. The time needed to find a particular drum track, or type of combi, or as you state sound by engine was just too difficult. In my opinion this is something seriously lacking on the machine and is a huge UX and workflow problem.

I think that probably the quickest way is to use the factory set list and from there you can quickly access each sound engine.
