Korg Nanos & the Kronos
I'm a little confused about the Korg nanoPAD2. I'm not sure, but I thought it said that the nanoPAD2 duplicated the pads on the Kronos when connected to it. Looking at the Kronos, I didn't see any velocity sensitive pads on the Kronos. What is it duplicating?
I'm also not sure how integrated the nanoCONTROL2 is to the Kronos.
Basically, I'm considering a Kronos 88, and using Velcro (or something similar - Command Strips?) to attach a nanoPAD2 and a nanoCONTROL2 in the blank area of the case. This could, theoretically, give me more live performance access to parameters, etc. What I don't know is whether the theory works in the real world.
(I suspect the nanoKONTROL Studio and nanoKEY Studio are just too new for a theory vs. actual comparison.)

I don't have a NanoControl so I can't really comment on its usefulness (don't forget you already have 8 knobs and 9 faders on the Kronos), but the NanoPad duplicates the function of the pads that were on the Kronos predecessors Oasys and M3. The Kronos itself has "on screen pads" which many people don't really like for the purpose. What you can do with them is trigger chords or notes. For each program or combi you can define 8 chords of up to 8 notes each. It's useful for KARMA, for mapped samples, and I use it to trigger two handed chords with one finger for several dance songs so I can adjust the filter cutoff with my left hand.
The nanoPAD2 works out of the box with the Kronos, and the pads make up for the conspicuously absent feature possessed by its predecessors, as SanderXpander mentioned. The x-y pad can be used to make some quite dramatic changes to the sounds whilst they're being played, but it can be difficult to get the Program or Combi back to what it was before the x-y pad-induced changes, without reloading the patch again.

Thanks. That makes sense. Get the nanoPAD2 but not the nanoKONTROL2.
As for fixing it to the Kronos, I was thinking about using Command strips. You'll find them in the hardware section of your Walmart. Put one (or two) on the nano and one (or two) on the Kronos. Press it in place during the gig, and take it off (leaving the Command strips) when you tear down.
Of course, given your case, it might be easier to just leave it in place.

I used to use velco strips with a small keyboard mixer long time ago, worked perfectly and the nanopad is even smaller/lighter.MusicianSickness wrote:velcro strips, velcro strips

We use it sometimes live, but for a different function: I hand the nanopad to one of the singers and she taps one preprogrammed pad during a song as extra sound effect, because I don't have hands free and we never use a sequencer live.

Just put two horizontal strips about 12 inches long parallel to each other about half an inch apart on the upper right hand end of your Kronos. I'd use the soft side. On the back of your nano pad put two strips of the other half aligned just the same way. Press the pad on and there you go! You might want to use smLler prices and it also depends on which hand you want to use the pad with.

I'm using a mobile phone car dash holder, you know the ones with a suction cup, obviously I had to try a couple as it has to be able to open wide enough to hold the nanopad.

If Korg reads these posts, I'm expecting a branded mobile phone car dash holder any day now. After all, shouldn't it have the Korg logo on it?drdave2002 wrote:I'm using a mobile phone car dash holder, you know the ones with a suction cup, obviously I had to try a couple as it has to be able to open wide enough to hold the nanopad.
External pad controller
My reply will probably apply to this thread. I am trying to get my akai mpk88's drum pads to trigger the chords in the Karma GEs like the nanopad2 is supposed to do. Is there any way of doing this? The on screen pads don't work the way I want them to.
