KEYBED ISSUES (73 key) help!!!!
I just got a kronos 73 weighted synth.. Anybody out there experiencing the same issue with the weighted keys?
When I play at low velocities the notes play very short. It sounds really un natural and is bumming me out big time..
No problem when the pedal is down..
Love the keyboard otherwise.. Any ideas? suggestions? I have a YOUTUBE video out so you can all see what I'm talking about.. (korg kronos keybed issues))
I'm just not sure it its a defect with my keyboard, or thats just the way this unit is made....
Had the keyboard only one week..
Under warranty.. Not sure if the place I ordered it from will return/exchange
will call tomorrow

thanks Lou. I understand about the pedal, but your notes should'nt cut off that fast when you play soflly without using the pedal.
I checked out some other Korg weighted keyboards at the store today, I played softly without pedal and it was "like butter"
This Kronos is a beast and I love it.. I just want a smooth sounding "not machine gun like transition between notes when playing softly without pedal.
It might be a contact issue?
Ive tried to alter the velocity sensitivity both globally and within the indovual sounds ,but not really right.
Thanks

Mine does the same thing. On mine it is a random short note. Happens over most of the keyboard, i.e it is not only happening to any particular keys or octave. Happens even if the sustain pedal is down. Very irritating. Some days it is worse than others. Some days doesn't happen at all.
I called Korg tech support, they recommended I send it back. I arranged to trade it up for a 88 when available (which should be mid next week), since I have to go through the trouble of packing, etc. It ships out end of this week.

thanks fellas, I will try a factory reload! OY!! all that time spent on putting sounds where I want them , what the hell it's worth a shot..
I will call Korg as well and see what they say.. I went to a store today and played another one of the Korg weighted keyboards that uses the same keybed.. it was smooth like butter.. None of this "machine gun, robotic sounding crap. So I dont think it's just the "korg feel"
Good luck wit your 88!!!!

You seem to have the same issue that many others have reported, please refer to the above thread
Make sure you contact your dealer and KORG within your 'return window' so that you get a replacement, repair or refund
If you lose your return window, you are stuck and your money is locked, be very careful with this problem

thank you for your help..
The post i was referring to is on YOUTUBE (korg kronos keybed problems)
there's a few of them by others as well.
The place i ordered it from hasa seven day return policy (i'm a little past that) but hopefully they will exchange it for the same or a 61 instead!!!
Then... there's the KORG route
not cool

I am starting to have these same symptoms as well with my Kronos 73.
Serial #458.
2nd or 3rd C from bottom of keyboard very loud and clunky now. Also gets stuck sometimes. Also noticed another C key loud and clunky sounding further up the keyboard.
And I've experienced the note cutoff issue as well intermittently.
Should probably have it repaired or replaced but I have 6 shows coming in the next 2 months that I need this keyboard for. No time to reprogram another synth.

I wish the search was working. I've answered this in multiple threads now.DZarob wrote:I am starting to have these same symptoms as well with my Kronos 73.

To fix the sticking B's or C's, here's what you do: Loosen the big-headed screws on the bottom of your keyboard (can do on stand usually). Then place your spacers cards in where they were when it shipped. If you don't have spacer cards, simply push back on the key-bed (GENTLY!) until it moves back just a very, very little (1-2mm). Then re-tighten the big-headed screws.
The issue is that there is some assembly slack that allows different alignments (very small differences) between the keybed and the front of the metal case. When they are too close, the C's (and B's) touch first and start to get sticky (I don't know why those keys appear longer or more forward).
It is a quick fix and not hard to do. Or you can send back your keyboard and get a replacement.
SHARP: Could you find my "sticking B's and C's" thread and make it sticky? (Pun intended). It seems like the information would help a lot of people, and maybe get more attention to the issue so Korg could prevent it in future. Also, if you got donations could we reenable the search? I'd donate. It seems like extra (redundant) content has to be posted because people are unable to find the original information.
Thanks!
Mark

Man oh man...
Sorry to hear about your woes.. this is really a troubling situation with all these key bed issues
Thankfully I have a MOTIF XF, that I will be using in the meantime.
It's really a shame cause the KRONOS is a monster, but the bottom line is a keyboard has to feel right as well.
OF course, organ and synth licks are not gonna sound the same on a weighted keyboard, but piano soloing should not sound like a staccato/robotic sound when playing fast (and soft).. I've killed my hands the last week trying to "Avoid" playing soft so that the "Cut off" sound doesn't happen.
For the price of Kronos 73, you shoud'nt have to do that.
My Roland RD 700 (original) doesn't do that and it's many. many years old. It's just too big to lug around for gigs.
I'm thinking about going for the 61, and avoiding these "key bed" issues.
I'd rather have the weighted.. I've been waiting so long for a wighted 76 (73) it finally comes, and now this!! good luck with your shows.
Your klunking issue doesn't sound like it will effect your ability to go on with the show, but it's still annoying!!!

good for you!!!
I called my store guy today and he said that i shoulld not worry..he will call his Korg rep and they'll hook me up..
In the meantime I went to store today and played the 73.
To see if it was just my keyboard.
And sure enough, the store unit was doing it too!!!!!
If you don't hold down the key just enough it sort of bounces and almost triggers again causing a little "blip" insane!!!
THe 61 key although is not weighted was much smoother and natural so I think I'm gonna opt for that until they get the wieghted issue right
good luck
