Korg Kronos and Reaper DAW

Post by KronosSoundDesigns »

I created this thread for those of you out there that utilize Cockos' Reaper as your DAW. Please share your experiences. For instance when using the Kronos and recording audio from the USB port how did you Reaper users set the options for audio input and output device?

BTW, www.Tinypic.com is a good place to host any images you guys would like to put in this thread of your workspace in Reaper.

Thanks and looking forward to read all your responses.

I'd love to have a running thread on this topic.
I just switched to Reaper and so far so good. I'm not very experienced with DAW's in general so not much to share yet unfortunately - I'm still in the discovery mode of playing around with creating a combi to hook up the various tracks.
Using USB with a Win7/64 system with no problems so far.

Thanks
C

yep, hopefully there are a lot of Reaper Users here. I got into reaper because at the time i needed a 64bit DAW that would run Omnisphere by spectrasonics. I actually don't have a Kronos yet but i am looking forward to recording each track with the original effects on the particular combi or program.

Yeah Midi is great if your going to print out your music with notation software, and do post production editing. However when you record that way you sometimes loose important nuances of the program because you limited to the master effects. Off course that was how it was prior to Kronos.

I'm using Reaper for quite a while now, but I don't have Kronos. I do have a Kurzweil PC3K8, and Korg X5D, and most recently, TR-Rack, though. :)

I'm a Reaper user w/ my Kronos, but I'm only using the midi function via USB. USB Audio doesn't work (only output) when using it as a USB audio device in Linux, so I'm just using analog for audio at the moment.

Other than having issues getting a fully working .ins file (my banks are all moved around and I always seem to cock it up when trying to update the file), it works great.

:D

I use my Kronos, JP80 and Omnisphere all at the same time with Reaper, using ASIO4ALL (11ms Latency on VIA onboard) until I get a proper ASIO capable card.

The beauty of reaper I find is the ability to add any existing track as a "Receive" to an audio track allowing you to easily convert midi to audio, even Omnisphere.

I use the Kronos and JP80 as both midi and Audio inputs (For audio I just need to switch inputs between JP/Kroni in the Audio/Asio preferences once I need to render the midi to audio thus keeping any individual effects intact), I use a midi track for each so I can edit any mistakes or make any changes I like and then simply add an audio record track, disable recording on the midi and enable recording on the new blank audio track hit record and it converts the midi to audio this way it effectively gives me unlimited midi tracks so if at the end I still don't like a particular track I can re-enable the corresponding midi track set the Kronos or JP80 back to the combi/program required, adjust and re-render back to audio.

I didn't have heard of Reaper before, but I added it to the wish list for PCG Tools to support it.

Reaper is great. It actually supports cakewalk .ins files as the standard instrument definition.

IMO, the only thing it is missing is a comprehensive notation editor (which I've read is coming). Otherwise it would be the perfect DAW.

Another Reaper user here, but with Oasys. Also have Pro-tools, but most of our work is in Reaper. Everything analogue in so far. Sometimes input song into Oasys internal sequencer and then into Reaper. This topic would be of great intrest to me as well.

have any of you reaper users had problems with Ik multimedias, Sample Tank 2.5xl, Miroslav Philharmonik, or Sonic Synth. By problem I mean that they are not responding beyond channel or track 1 in reaper?

In that case it would be better to support .ins files to start (is already in the wish list).
