Korg Kronos hooked up with Roland V-Drums?

Post by krslae »

I use the Kronos for music production, and as my friend plays the drums (he uses Pearl Master Custom as well as Roland V-Drums) we was wondering if there is any way to connect the V-Drums to the Kronos and use the drum sounds on the Kronos. So basically: Can we play/record the Kronos drum sounds (in seq mode) using the Roland V-Drums hardware? Didn’t find any of this in the Param/OP guide.

Thx :-)

If the drum kit sends out MIDI note data it should be possible.
Probably the MIDI channel has to be set to 10 (if I'm correct).

I tested this "process" last weekend with a Yamaha DTX.

Actually use channel 10, but had great difficulty to adjust the "pieces"! For example, the Kick (DTX), sounded a hi-hat (Kronos).

I tried to adjust the pitch, but I confess that I have not had time to evaluate all the details.

Sorry for the bad english.

think you need to transpose notes on one octave. Korg's drum kits are 1 octave lower compared to other manufactures. Set+12 for drum track on Kronos side or, if possible, -12 on midi output of external device (V-drums, Yamaha etc.).

I use and SPD30 with the Kronos all the time. The easiest adjustments are made on the drum controller, specifically which midi note number does each pad send, rather than on the Kronos itself. Of course you could rearrange the Kits inside the Kronos.....but its much easier to set up your controller of 6 or 10 pads, than it is to set up Kronos kits of 60 or more notes. In any event, its a brilliant set up that works flawlessly.

Should work. My drummer has a dtx 12 and it sounds pretty good. We loaded some Steven slate samples and it's even better now! The best part is I can send it tempo changes and my drummer can follow them with ease. If u have two patches in a row in Kronos with the same tempo, the Kronos itself will update every time u switch patches, so the tempo is not consistent, however the dtx ignores the update and the patch change with the same tempos goes unnoticed by my drummer, but he gets the changes of course when there is one.

If you use one of the GM programs, it should work out of the box.

I think that "real" drum computers will make it much easier to edit a drumkit. Finetuning every part of the drumkit in Kronos may take a lot of time... imo!
