Setting up PC based studio

I would like some advice about a good starter setup for a PC based studio with the kronos as the centerpiece instrument. I already have a robust PC, but I probably need an additional card for mic inputs. I will also need editing software. Any advice is welcome and appreciated!

I think you'll get the best answer if you provide us with a bit more information.
What is it exactly that you're planning to do with the Kronos/PC-setup?

For example:
• Do you want to sequence on the Kronos or on the PC?
• Do you want to edit sounds on the Kronos or on the PC?
• Are you going to make use of VST plugins?

The next piece to consider is an audio interface. There are many to choose from and it can be a difficult choice. You want to be sure that it has enough channels to handle all of your current needs as well as leaving plenty of room for future growth.

Focusrite, Motu and RME have very good ones. I use a Motu 896.

Then you need to choose your DAW. Again, there are many choices. Ableton, Sonar, Pro Tools, Reaper, Cubase to name a few. I use Sonar X3.

I'm using a Presonus Studiolive 16.4.2 mixer for my mics and keyboards to get into my PC. Still having problems with the whole system though.

I will use the kronos for almost all of the instrumental production save for the occasional guitar tracks. I will record vocals and guitars via the PC and finalize the mix in the PC.

Find a used Digi003R and run the latest version of Pro tools. You will have 8 inputs plus the digital input, aux inputs, etc.

This will be good for tracking your songs, plus it will be easy to bounce to other studios that use protools.

My mixer and computer aren't talking to each other yet. I just haven't really spent enough time with all my new equipment. Plus, I just picked up a new King Korg and have been playing with it. Been to the cottage on weekends, family stuff. You know. I'm hoping in a couple of weeks to really get down and figure it all out.
I'm not in a hurry though. Summer is here and I'd reacher be fishing on my dock and drinking beer!

How about this audio interface by Focusrite? Is this compatible with Acid Pro 7?

That's a good and popular audio interface. It's not really a question of it being compatible with Acid Pro 7 specifically, if it has good ASIO drivers (and it does), it will work well with any DAW software.

Thank you, sander... I'm still rather new to PC based recording and I appreciate everyone's input. I come from the old days of digital hard drive recorders/mixers! I'm looking forward to what the kronos is capable of when properly interfaced with a PC.

There are a lot of us that come from the "older" days of analog tape. Reel-to-Reel decks. Okay, maybe I'm speaking for myself! lol

You're not the on,y one. My first recording experience came from recording myself on piano with my dad's monophonic reel to reel. I find it quite amusing that even today we I still use the same transport controls!
