Well, I got it. A few initial comments below. It does depart a bit from the usual ROMpler , as it does not have a patch/program mode at all, just a multi/combi mode. The sounds are very, very good for the most part, and are very usable - they play very well and I can already tell that they fit ...

I ordered one this morning. Hope to get it by Friday. BTW, the SRX boards still have some very good acoustic sounds by modern standards. The drum (SRX-01 & 03), string (SRX-04 & 06), guitar (SRX-03), and brass (SRX-11) sounds are all significantly more realistic and playable than the Kronos. And ...

I respect karma for what it is or does, but I think it would be a logical step to make it USER PROGRAMMABLE and not just TWEAKABLE. I know I can purchase the software (for more cash) but I WANT to see this implemented in the keyboard instead of having to rely on a computer. Steven Kay is a genius ...

Great sounds, but many sound like Wavestation presets, though that's hardly a bad thing. One thing you could do to bring out even more of the "big" Kronos sound would be to use some more analog-synth waveforms to accompany (or in lieu of) of the Wavestation/JD-990ish PCM waveforms you're often using ...

Thanks for the tip, Sharp.

I didn't see a list of supported formats on their site.

Do you know by any chance if CDXtract can export to the Kronos' native format?

Thanks,
David

Importing Roland-format CD-ROM Libraries to Kronos?

Hi all, I have a good-sized large library of Spectrasonics and Roland Sample Archive libraries from the mid 90s that I would be interested in importing to the Kronos to help beef up some of the, IMO, fairly weak stock HD1 acoustic sounds. I've had pretty good luck using Kontakt's Roland format ...

@sani I doubt it's the engineers who are making these decisions, as they likely just get shuffled from project to project and don't have any influence. More likely the beancounters. But again, further to my earlier post, whenever you're building a product, you have to manage costs, risks, and ...

The other thing to keep in mind - which all of the Japanese synth manufacturers are struggling with - is that the yen has been very, very strong against the USD and EUR, especially since the earthquake. For example, the yen has gained about +40% against the US Dollar since 2008. I'd have to guess ...

Read from Dan the Roland guy at rolandclan that the 4 slot limit is because the waves from the slots are loaded into ram - allowing interaction with the new engine and effects. Interesting. This could mean that, to keep costs down, they are re-using an existing architecture (possibly from the ...

New user from NYC

Hi all,

I'm a new user from NYC who is considering buying a Kronos. Looking forward to the discussions. I own a Wavestation A/D and used an 01/WFD a fair bit during the early 90s, but have mostly been a Roland guy since the late 90s.
